Curses foiled again!

Friends of the South Side Park or as we like to call them “The angry white folks club” were dealt a final blow on Wednesday when their lawsuit against the recreation center was tossed by the five-member New York state Appellate court. Writing for the court Judge J. Kavanagh wrote “that all three causes of actions were reviewed and found to be without merit, and sustained the ruling of the lower court.”
Judge J. Kavanagh went on to add” As such, we cannot conclude that this decision, as it was issued, constituted an abuse of the City Council’s discretion,”
So in the end the lawsuit was little more than smoke and mirrors and much ado about nothing and the court was clearly able to see that.

In what can only be called bizarre ANDREW J. BERNSTEIN, cub reporter for The Saratogian wrote the Mayor ‘had been called out for wrong priorities by mayoral candidate and Commissioner of Public Safety Ron Kim” Called out, what is that supposed to mean? I understand criticized or objected to, but called out, to what pistols at fifty paces? One could also argue the Mayoral race was as much a referendum on the building of the Rec center as it was who should lead the city and the voices of the citizens spoke loudly and strongly by a margin of 1500 “yes to the rec center”. All of that is water under the bridge now with construction well under way; the poor children of long neglected Jefferson Terrace can look forward to a wonderful spring in their new building. So the angry white folks of Friends of the South Side Park gave it a shot and lost, now deal with it.

This can also be final death knell for Kim/Keehn DFC as their failed election campaign was biased on one issue the rec center and they have now lost on all fronts.

Bernstein, writing today on the Rec. center throwing in that stuff about Mr. Wrong Way Kim "calling out" the Mayor for "wrong priorities" is absurd. The election is over and Mr. Kim’s one-sided opinion on building his fortress or do nothing is over as well too. It was only a few days ago that Bernstein wrote his story on the “mystery leaves” most of which have been piled street side for weeks and the reporter didn’t ask the Commissioner or comment on the loss of 4 truck drivers which everyone in the city is aware of effecting the process. Are we better informed by reading that paper or just being politically handled?

And what's with Bernstein? First the LEAF MYSTERY and then the last dig of the campaign season with the MAYOR BEING CALLED OUT by that guy that lost. Can we move on now folks?

Five Points should start planning their 5 slice pizza or 5 piece grinder for tournament nights because that once dark, barely used lot is going to come alive with activity.

Let's give the young cub a break.

Yes, he used an unfortunate phrase ("called out") in his report. I am sure he realizes that fact now and agrees that it was inappropriate. Hey, we all make boo boos.

The bigger point is this: he's a kid just out of school. The Saratogian -- as one of the worst newspapers amongst the worst newspaper chains in the US -- has basically thrown him to the wolves without the benefit of decent training or in-house role models. All in a location that is not his native town (I don't believe--but I could be wrong on that).

Let's instead help him to improve his craft--so he can eventually get a good job with a real newspaper.

I will grant you that Bernstein is an overworked and underpaid reporter but his intern days are over. During the last election cycle and continuing Bernstein has been little more than a Scirocco apologist and a Ron Kim cheerleader. Time for Bernstein to grow some thicker skin and do a little more balanced writing. The newspaper world is cutthroat and on the verge of collapse, veteran reporters are being shit canned daily with pay cuts being forced down the throats of the survivors. I do not pretend to be a writer and this blog is run by a few individuals who saw the direction our city was taking and wanted to try to stop it, we have no further ambitions. Bernstein's writing is his resume for future employment and I hope he will take the complaints against him constructively for his own sake.

Bernstein, a young idealist Democrat had been co-opted to believe that Ron Kim, who is a politician in Commissioner’s clothing was doing what was right for the community and that his man Skippy had the so-called guts to sign on to help with building an unnecessary gargantuan facility that would only suck tax dollars calling it the people’s work, when his own Republican colleagues did not support it.

The DFC posing as realists was a stab at trying to attract newcomers and exposing what they projected Saratoga Springs to be Tweed’s hometown -- a perfect opportunity for these pilgrims to get involved, maybe for the first time. Trouble is, in the end, they only exposed themselves as intolerant self-serving hypocrites who could not understand that change unlike revolution, takes time and when it finally happens, the result is often different than what was perceived in the beginning.

And then there’s the PSD, whose single costly issue captured the hearts and minds of those minions who tired endlessly to support their one item while blindly ignoring the needs of the rest of the city and its residents. Ever consider, that the majority of the ever conservative PSD who are most likely certified Republicans, wouldn’t want those "other mostly Democratic peoples” to have the liberal public health and employment benefits that they as public employees and PBA and Union members enjoy yet, they want the City to spend so long as they, are the beneficiaries?

And so, as Bernstein throws his old dogs a bone, perhaps we can rest assured that he’ll evolve with age.

The Rec Center will be a disaster. A disaster just like the kids that will use it. The Terrace is a sewer and keeps getting worse. Those idiots there got rid of a minister who was helping the needy in favor of a registered sex offender. Go figure.

CITY CENTER IS STILL THERE.

Another piece of scintillating journalism from The Saratogian and Berstein! With all that's going on locally and regionally, the burning question of the hour is, Is work progressing steadily on the City Center?

We all know the paper is an absolute disgrace.

The young man is well advised to exit, ASAP.

I love the map in the Saratogian that had the label, "Five Corners."

And soon we'll be hear'in from those dead rabbits -- those layin low angry white people from the five corners to start trouble with those who'd live there first. Well, if its a fight you want, a fight you'll get. Start your league, get your sneakers and sign up for courttime.

What makes anyone think people from Jefferson Terrace will benefit from this building? The Johnsonites are already trying to come up with ways to pay the bills. This means tournaments and outside the area involvement. It also means charges for usage of the REC Facility.
The terrace kids won't pay to go there, thus will be shit on once again. As soon as they realize they were used to get this building built it will do more harm than good to the neighborhood. Hope you got a plan there Dickie Worth.

That whole terrace area is an abomination and should be leveled.

True, the tournaments will prevail. That's why this facility should have been where it was originally planned for before the Southsiders and Val stole the show for a 'walkable' neighborhood facility. You people who hatefully put down the Terrace are the very people who wanted a facility near you. You pay what you get for. Merry Christmas.

You pay what you get for said...

HUH? Are you retards being schooled by the Housing Authority too? You pay what you get for? The southside neighbors were against the REC center in their neighborhood. What rock are you coming out from under? Keehan ok'ed the center for the weibel ave. location, not southside. The Terrace office people are a bunch of idiots! They get rid of thr boy scouts. They get rid of the girl scouts. Now they get rid of a Pastor who has helped thousands of people with food bank throughout area. Brillant!

6:56 - Check the record. McTygue had the project designed by the architects on Weibel and Keehn wrestled it away. She orchestrated the move to the 'urban core' neighborhood site and all her south side people stood by. What a nightmare huh? Get over it. The one story 60's housing and split levels across the street will probably see an increase in value after it's all done.

"The Terrace People" -- that's a good one. Face it moron, the Terrace is low income housing - workforce housing under a different name -- assisted living for some -- and a hell of a place to have to live for others with neighbors like you. Unless you've lived next to the Terrace for more than 30 years, I'd say you got a price break on your home purchase or rental. So, what's your beef, an ugly recreational building in your neighborhood? When it's all done, you'll be the first to admit that it will be the best looking addition to that side of town in a long time. Lost your little hardly used and poorly maintained grass lot that neighbors would complain was being used by 'those people with their music' punky? The new center is going to bring life to a dead zone and all this crap about Weibel smiebel is a waste of time and energy. Make a difference Moron -- be a good neighbor. You don’t sound like a very hospitable person to have to live near ya know.
