May the Lord in His Mercy be Kind to Haiti.

Sometimes in our petty little world of local politics we forget the larger less affluent world around us. Haiti the poorest nation in the western hemisphere has been struck with an earthquake of biblical proportions. The death toll and the human suffering taking place as I write this is unfathomable. I have traveled to Haiti and have spent a fair amount of time in her island neighbor The Dominican Republic and am planning to go again in April. I always found the Haitian people to be a hardscrabble lot who despite their poverty were a remarkably upbeat friendly and at times shy people.

For those unfamiliar with the living conditions in Haiti before the earthquake these are some personal pictures I took. Again I have no idea of the people in these photos are dead or alive.

Uruguayan UN peacekeepers that befriended me when they found out I had visited their beautiful county.

My 14 year old body guard. That is a pistol tucked in his pants.

Market day in a country with so little.

Again I hope these people have survived and let this remind you to be thankful for what you have.

Text "HAITI" to 90999 to donate $10 to the Red Cross. OR Text "YELE" to 501501 to donate $5 to Wyclef Jean's Haiti Earthquake Relief Fund.

Rush Limbaugh wasn't so kind with his remarks. Neither was "Rev."Robertson.
Two big jerks.

This is tragic beyond all measure. Donations can also be sent to Catholic Charities. they have a lot of experience in this region and did a great job in New Orleans.

Yes. I'm sure these people will be sucking on Uncle Sam's tit taking all our Social Security monies before we know it. We in the long run will suffer more than these people. Awonderful world we live in.
Fuck it! Tonite I will jump!

Hey Tighe ! Where did you get that picture? The Burr Family Picnic! I haven't seen a bunch like this since the west side rose up and bussed them all to Jefferson Terrace in the late 60's, early 70's.
