You not only destroyed the Public Safety Dept and turned this once popular Dept to an object of public scorn and ridicule you laid the ground work, through irrational scheduling, that included hundred of hours of unnecessary overtime that directly led to the first layoffs in the Dept’s history. I have a bright idea, why don't you take a closer look at the SEMS issue rather than scratching the surface & inflaming the boil? How about the FACT that SEMS has sent over 25% of their emergency calls to out if town agencies? How about the fact that Empire Ambulance offered $300,000 INCOME to the city in rent alone? How about the fact that SEMS employees took a vote of "no confidence" in their leadership & Board of Directors last June? How about the fact that Shawna Sutton sits on the SEMS BOD?
I've yet to see that side of the story. And I'm not a fan of Ronny; Let's just get that in the open now... And I'm not on the city payroll either...

After they were gone he would have signed with one of the for profits, then quickly turned on them so he could void their contact, so he could achieve his ultimate goal. The taking over of emergency services by the Saratoga Springs Fire Dept. I know it and you should know it. They already had an unlicensed ambulance in the garage. Under Ron they had agreed to lower there starting salary by 10k to take the sting out of hiring 10 new firemen. Ron had accelerated there Paramedic training all paid for by the City of course and he would have been successful if Johnson hadn’t won the election. The cost of services would have skyrocked. No matter how Ron spun it, the fees charged would never had covered the cost to the taxpayers for the extra Fireman. The Fireman have been struggling for years to find a new role to justify their continued existence. We have few real structure fires and I really don’t know how much longer they will continue in their current role.
So Ron is gone and you still want to privatize fine. I disagree. Both Empire and Mohawk have horrible tract records. Just Google either name. They are Mercenary meat wagons. SEMS also uses “soft billing” where if the person is unable to pay they forgive the charges. Mohawk and Empire would drag an old widow into court to put a lien on her burial plot to collect a fee.
In closing SEMS costs me squat. I vote to keep them.

Val Keehn is a NXIVM life coach. She had a web site offering her services but it has since been taken down. Everyone who she saw , she was expected to kick back a fee to NXIVM. A classic multilevel marketing scam. She's one of 400 coaches working for NXIVM The problem with Raniere is that no matter how much money the sheep bring in. he, just pisses it away.Anyway Keehn is a believer ,he might of dipped his wick in that puppy to give her a little extra motivation. Kim on the other hand has been to a few 3 day seminars and from what I’ve been told the usual fee was waved .Perhaps in the hope he might be useful to Raniere someday. Ken Ivins should have been defeated by a one-legged duck but unfortunately instead of a duck you ran Peter Martin.His credibility was destroyed along with any chance of winning by his close association with Kim\Keehn. The only good candidate that actually was not a back door dealing hack was Matt McCabe. Hopefully he will come back and run for Mayor.
I have always found Johnson to be a Moderate Republican. He seems to have a healthy respect for historic preservation, open space and recreation. The Democratic in the last election seemed to campaign as demented teabaggers. Spending all the Cities resources’ on Public Works and Public Safety while proposing cuts to social programs, selling public space and eliminating recreation opportunities for residents. All of this to fund a massive buildup in armed police that was akin to Republican defense spending at the expense of social programs. In the end Johnson seemed more of a Democrat than the moronic Kim.
And remember Matt McCabe was one of the driving forces behind the much discussed WRECK center as the DPC calls it bonding.
I gave up on Martin when he said our taxes were to low. True we have a very low tax rate per thousand but the medium assessed value of our homes are twice as high and in some cases three times as high as other communities. So on paper you can make the deceiving case that our taxes are low but in reality they are Sky high. Take for example my dump on Warren St assessed at 250K if I had a 250K house in City of Schenectady it would be a Mansion in the GE plot. As long as Dems run as high taxing neo-cons whose first goal seems to be a better armed and larger Police Force they will lose. You need to find new direction and better leaders

Salem floats dissolution, shared services options

SALEM -- Schuylerville is doing it. So are the villages of Victory and Corinth.
It may be the village of Salem's turn to start exploring ways of sharing services with the town and to evaluate whether to dissolve altogether.
"We had a joint meeting with the town and the village last week when it came up, and we talked about it," said Salem town Supervisor Seth Pitts, who posted an inquiry on the town's new blog site inviting residents to voice their opinions on the potential move.
"The reason I did it is to put the question out there and to see how people feel about it," Pitts said. "It was something that came up and that people were asking about during the campaign."
Pitts, a Republican, defeated Democratic candidate Jay Bellanca in a November election to decide who would succeed retiring two-term supervisor Steve Alexander.
There have been 21 villages in the state that have dissolved since 1972. It is a process that takes a few years before coming to a public vote. It can begin when a village board puts consolidation up for a referendum, or when residents petition to get the issue put on the ballot. In the latter case, signatures from one-third of registered village voters are required to bring the issue to ballot.
Schuylerville began its petition process in 2008 and will vote on the referendum in March, 2011. Victory began its petition process in 2009 and will go to a vote in March, 2013. The issue is being studied in Corinth and may be on the ballot as early as March, 2011.
In Salem, Pitts said he will continue to look for ways to save taxpayers' money by maintaining services currently split by the town and the village, such as sharing an animal control officer. He said he will also look into initiating new shared services with the school district, although as far as a potential dissolution goes, Pitts said he will be "stepping back," because any push for a study must now come from the village.
Village of Salem Mayor Anne Dunigan said that, while there have been some questions raised by residents asking about the sharing of services with the town, there has not been anything definitive brought to the Village Board.

So I will make my rebuke as brief as possible:
Yes SSFD had an "unlicensed" ambulance in their garage. And they've had it for over 2 years. It sits there, collecting dust instead of collecting third party revenue. Those are simple facts.
So let's move on to more "juicy" facts, shall we? Why is it that the three stooges (v. 2009) said publicly "we need to find additional sources of revenue", yet refuse to let the SSFD "ambulance" be placed into operation? Why is Franck quoted as saying, "they'll never run an ambulance while I'm sitting on the council."?
Here's another interesting fact. Johny-boy stated (in public) that "they (refering to SSFD) aren't the problem; they (meaning SSPD) are the problem." So the fire department, on Johny-boys own admission, is a victim of guilt by assosciation, rather than the evil empire that you (and the vocal minority) accuse.
And let's also address the over-time issue, shall we? When NYRA has the flat track in operation, overtime swells to stagering heights. That's no secret. But, what the vocal minority "over looks", is the fact that the city of Saratoga Springs receives a check from NYRA in mid-October covering the "overtime incurred for the direct operation of the track". This means all the overtime that SSPD & SSFD incur during the racing season, directly related to the operation of the flat track, is 100% reimbursed to the city. When the city gets that multi-million dollar check, instead of being dumped into the public safety overtime budget, it is dumped into the general fund. Now, money is money, and overtime is overtime, but the PD and FD are not charging the taxpayors for this expense. So, hypothetically, what appears to be a $4 million bill for overtime is actually about $850,000 (which does come the city budget). These numbers are guesstamates, but the percentages are spot on.
And if SSFD were allowed to operate their ambulance in tandem with SEMS, that overtime that is paid for by the citizens would be lowered to about $200,000 for all of DPS.
So why is it that the "3 stooges" and "shemp" are crying poverty & asking for more sources of income, but refuse to allow this "cash cow" to be milked?
And, before you respond with wantonous banter & name calling, look at the facts as I've presented them. There's money to be recouped that doesn't include a flawed paid parking system or having toothless petitions presented to the blind man in Albany. And, no, I'm not a union hack OR on the city payroll. Let's just say I'm well educated in this field and knows where the skeletons are hidden for the local 501-C3 "meat wagon"...
