Scirocco Bomb Shell

City Hall watchers were stunned to hear that Public Works Commissioner Anthony "Skip" Scirocco said his department will return $400,000 to $500,000 to the city based on budget savings in 2009. Scirocco said {I am not making this up} he will have full details of where that money came from "within a few weeks."

So let’s see, in this snowless winter were you have spent zero, none, zip, nada on snow removal you have suddenly “found” a half a million dollars, but your not sure were it came from? Was it next to the 3000+ garbage bags that you have misplaced? Perhaps it was in the desk drawer that the check from DEC was in, that you held onto because you had no idea what it was for? I have a feeling Finance Commissioner Ken Ivins who I am told monitors your budget weekly might be interested considering that the city's 2010 budget deficit that stood at $1.35 million is actually about $2.2 million. We will look forward to hearing about it when the City Council will discuss measures to address the $2.2 million budget gap during a public hearing Monday night at the Canfield Casino. Until then I still see your truck’s driving aimlessly around town in circles still hunting for that last elusive Christmas tree.

In all seriousness, you either severely over budgeted last year,or you have no fucking idea what you are talking about. So either way, you made the claim now

There were a lot of people on Broadway and I did see DPW trucks drive down Broadway with we men in the cab. Just what are they doing? Why didn’t they open up the public restrooms? They obviously had enough personal? Why can’t they open up the gas pumps for the cops?

Speaking of Cops. There were two cop cars parked on Broadway today. There only function seemed to be checking out the chicks walking down Broadway. I know Caroline can get a little rowdy at night but do we need all this in the middle of the day? I would guess you could lay off half the cities workforce and the only thing different might be the amount of money city homeowners would have to spend with the lower taxes.

we have been married for 22 years. The only thing we give one another on anniversaries is dirty looks. I used to think about how I would ask you to take me back now I have to think about how I can convince myself you never even existed. Yesterday, you and I went shopping for the first time in a while to buy panties for me. I’m addicted to pornography. I masturbate every day to keep my stress levels down....you know...I still can't go down in the basement because of you...at least not alone.

Those cops on Broadway were probably making 90000k+ a year.

WHY IS THE CITY PAYING SOMEBODY $47,000 TO WATER FLOWERS IN THE SUMMER AND THAT SAME WOMAN DOES NOTHING IN THE WINTER,WHY ISN'T THAT A SEASONAL JOB?

Why is DPW head Skip Scirocco OVERTAXING us?Why Can't people in his dept. count? Why are we paying somebody in DPW $47,000 a year to water Flowers and do nothing else? I just hope Finance Comm. Ivins continues to keep an eye on SCIROCCO and his GANG of the THUGS,the free ride has got to end.

This jerk ought to feel really good after rebudgeting twice last year and now finding money that might have prevented people from getting layed off. Or screwing the taxpayers for a higher tax rate than if he would have budgeted correctly.

Ken Ivins is the only 1 to blame for the budget always being short. He has zero skills in even
Attempting to balance a checkbook. Now he is in charge of a city budget, and has made dozens of
Miscalculations in just a short time. He is the most incompetent commishioner in this citys long
History! The budget will never be correct as long as this guy is in charge of the budget.

Yes, but look at the flip side to some of the arguments. Officier Adam Baker made only $46,000 but he was attacked by an escaped mental patient and got his throat cut. When was the last time any of you had to deal with anything close to that for such a measily amount of money. Some are overpaid. But not all.

Do We Have A Count on the Bags Yet said...

It is sad that these arguments have to pit the deserving City workers against the underserving and overpaid. But, it's really going to take a good deal of real oversight and management skill to reverse this trend of increasing expenses and diminishing revenue. When you have the likes of Skip Scirocco running a City Department with a $9 million budget and responsibility that frankly he don't even understand, what do you all realistically think we, a community, can do to get us out of this hopeless situation??
Finally, it appears that the local newspaper is starting to get it.

See You at the Soup Kitchen said...

Mamie, you are right. The only problem here is that Officer Adam Baker and any other police officer making less than $50,000 would be better off, and safer, working as a laborer for the DPW and Scirocco making $47,275.00 watering flowers. You really can't make this stuff up!

The guy running DPW has a lot of folks believing he is poor, abused, and all the other council members are responsible for his shortcomings. The reality is that he and he alone is totally responsible for the management of the DPW, nobody else, not even Ivins or Adam Baker.

Hey Mamie lots of people in the military come under fire on a daily basis for a lot less money than a rookie Saratoga cop.

Exactly my point. Every department has it's share who are paid too much. Also they have some underpaid. There should be caps on certain positions. I have many years in and remain on the low end. I'm not saying I am underpaid. Just that I am not overpaid. I come to work everyday and do my job. I can't say the same for everybody. We all know Skip is no rocket scientist, but he is no criminal either.

And yes military personnel do work for peanuts but unless you are one of them you have nothing to talk about. This is about city workers I thought. I was just pointing out that some people risk a lot more than the average person going to work every day.

I am going to state a few things that my may not be popular but need to be said. Officer Adam Baker was an inexperienced officer who let a mental patient get to close to him. He broke Department protocol and paid a heavy price. His partner exacerbated the problem by panicking and it took the brave efforts of a 12 year old child from the neighboring trailer park to put a towel to the wound to help control the bleeding. This event should have been the subject of a serious department review, but that did not fit into Ron Kim’s plans to exploit the incident for his own political ambitions. The role of the girl was downplayed and the officers who panicked and broke operating procedures were immortalized and dragged around as poster boys for the new police dept. There is always more to these stories than the political spin of Politian.

Yes it will not be popular but is the truth. I am glad we have a forum like this to separate the bullshit from the spin.

Speaking of the Bullshit, the spin and the truth...here it is THE BULLSHIT:The article in todays' local rag glorifying the lastest DPW Deputy Comm.Timothy Cogan.2)The SPIN: Yesterdays' editorial in the Saratogian written by Super Pen Barbara Lombardo attempted to cut the legs out from under current DPW Comm.Sciroccos' legs by using a squrit gun, she gave incompentence a whole new meaning!3)THE TRUTH: Mr.Cogan was trained by the previous Comm.Mctygue and worked under him for 30+yrs,so why would Scirroco hire him as his deputy and citing his 30+yrs with Mctygue as the reason for hiring him back when in fact Scirocco has said that he is trying to clean up the last 30 yrs. of mismanagement which Cogan was part of! Lets hope he can count and are we still going to pay the flower girl $38 an hour to water flowers in the rain?

mamie said...

Ok. I agree he may have been inexperienced and they made mistakes. But, this still makes my point. If the girl in dpw who waters flowers makes a mistake and doesn't water flowers then the flowers die. There is no threat to her life. Her salary is more than his? That's Nuts! Cap their salaries in these lesser positions.

Guess how much the head of the New York Public Library makes. I ask people this and they shoot off guesses they think are high. $150K? Nope. A quarter-million? Still low. Okay, okay, $500 thousand. Not there yet.

He made $688K in 2008. That’s down from when he made $800K in 2005. You’re probably thinking I’m making this up. Nope. Read about it in the New York Times. Do your own research on payrolls at SeeThroughNY.net.

The SUNY Albany President was reported to be making $280K, plus a $261K pension, and has a $100K consulting job with his old state job. Read about it in the Times Union.

They’re not alone. There are nearly 80,000 public employees in New York State who make over $100,000 a year. More than 32,000 of them make over $120K and over 8000 make over $150K. High-flying pensions are becoming a huge problem. Read more about at Pension Tsunami: New York.

Career politicians are proposing across the board pay freezes and cutting teachers. We can save more money for both the state and for local governments by bringing these high-flying salaries and pensions back down to earth.

Warren supports a cap on public sector pay at $100,000 per year, and a pension cap of $75,000.

Critics of this idea say that these jobs are too important and that you won’t be able to find quality people at $100K. They’re not living in the real world. There are plenty of highly qualified people in NY who make less than $100K. Public service is supposed to be about public service, not about getting rich.

The head of the Albany Parking Authority makes $130K. To run parking lots? We can find someone to do that for $100K – or less.

Hey I would take any of those jobs for a bargain price of $55,000 a year. I'm qualified. I have a college degree. I ran a business country wide. My needs, I guess, are simple. I don't need a lot to be happy. And I'm sure you would find a lot of people out there who would be happy to work for that too. To say that you won't find qualified people is total bullshit. Sign me up.
