In memorial; Dick Brooks

Noted political and sports writer Dick Brooks died yesterday in a Bennington Veterans home, he was 75. Mr. Brooks worked at the Saratogian and Gazzette from the sixties thru the early nineties retiring due to illness. A funeral will be held later this week at St Peter’s Church with burial at St Peter’s Cemetery. Mr. Brooks is survived by his two daughters and a son and many grandchildren. I knew the man and he was a real old fashioned journalist, when the Saratogian was a real newspaper which had a daily circulation of over 20,000 copies. My condolences to the family.

Didn't he have two sons?

The Saratogian never had 20,000.
In the 1950s it was 12.000

Back in the late sixties and early seventies when the Saratogian was a late afternoon edition it did indeed have a daily circulation of 20k.
Back then they had a large staff and printed the paper on presses in the ground floor. I know the Brooks family and he had one son.

He had an interesting relationship with Lombardo ... take it as you will

Ironic isn't it that Lombardo should eulogize Dick Brooks. Wasn't it she who sacked him from the Saratogian? Wasn't he their only investigative reporter at that time? The end result of his being sacked was that he eventually became a street person compliments of his boss Lombardo.Didn't they have a relationship? When the ardor cooled he was tossed aside like an old shoe.

Funny that Lombardo had such nice things to say about him in the crapatogian. she was the one who forced him out after they had an affair. she is about as classy as a moist turd on a 90-degree day. Too bad about Dick, he was a nice guy and a good reporter, the opposite of slime like Andrew Bernstein.
