First before I mock these, let me explain these are his own words from NXIVM official documents, I have not changed so much as a comma from his 12 point mission statement from Copyright 1998, Executive Success Programs, Inc.

1. Success is an internal state of clear, honest knowledge of what I am, my value in the world and my responsibility for the way I react to all things.
2. There are no ultimate victims, therefore, I will not choose to be a victim.
3. I am committed to be successful. I understand that each of us must raise ourselves – and thereby raise all others – as all others raise us. This is interdependence.
4. Success in my own right is my earned success. True success cannot be stolen, copied or received by happenstance. I will not masquerade as successful by these methods or any other. I will earn my success.
5. Tribute is a form of payment and honor. It is giving credit where credit is due. I will use tribute to uphold others beyond my petty likes and dislikes. As a result I will define my self and my true contribution to humankind.
6. Successful people do not steal and they have no desire or need to steal. I will not steal anything. I will always earn what I need and desire. Copying without permission, or tribute, is not the highest form of flattery, it is theft. Theft is also taking or receiving something without fully earning it, it is always at the expense, no matter how small, of others.
7. Inner honesty and integrity are the highest human values and the foundation of the human psychology. All other values arise from them. I will never trade my integrity or inner honesty for any other value. It is never worth it.
8. The methods and information I learn in ESP are for my use only. I will not speak of them, or in any way give others knowledge of them, outside ESP. Part of the condition of being accepted into ESP is to keep all its information confidential. If I violate this, I am breaking a promise and breaching my contract, but more importantly I am compromising my inner honesty and integrity.
9. True success is never at the expense of others. As a successful individual, I will never envy another’s success. I will rejoice because I realize the success of others raises me up just a little bit more because I am also part of the human team. The actualization of human potential by anyone is a tribute to all team humankind. If others are successful, I will protect their success against those that envy them. I pledge to purge myself of all parasite and envy-based habits and replace them with the habits of effort and interdependence.
10. I will unreservedly accept the success I have earned. I will accept no more and no less. This is accepting with integrity. I will give unreservedly to those who have earned it. This is giving with integrity. I will accept with integrity as easily as I give with integrity. To not accept what I am worth, or what I have earned, is to devalue myself and thereby all others.
11. People control the money, wealth and resources of the world. It is essential for the survival of humankind for these things to be controlled by successful, ethical people. I pledge to ethically control as much of the money, wealth and resources of the world as possible within my success plan. I will always support the ethical control of these things.
12. A world of successful people will be a better world indeed, a world devoid of hunger, theft, dishonesty, envy and insecurity. People will no longer try to destroy each other, steal from each other, down each other or rejoice at another’s demise. Success, ethics and integrity are co-inspirational. I pledge to share and enroll people in ESP and its mission for myself and to help make the world a better place to live.
Ok where to begin. First you have to understand the sick little mind and massive ego of Keith Raniere "Vanguard". The first and golden rule of Keith is “no one does anything for free".
So Keith demands “Tribute” A tribute (from Latin tributum, contribution) is wealth one party gives to another as a sign of capitulation or, as was often the case in historical contexts, of submission or allegiance.
"Render therefore unto Vanguard the things which are Vanguard’s; and unto God the things that are Gods"
And remember folks to do it with a smile for it is an “honor” to pay "Tribute" to Vanguard.
And please remember never commit the ultimate faux pas and ask for a receipt.
8. “The methods and information I learn in ESP are for my use only.” Remember folks never tell the heathen masses the great secrets of the all knowing and powerful wizard. They might laugh their ass’s off.
“I pledge to ethically control as much of the money, wealth and resources of the world as possible” Grab all you can boys and girls and don’t forget my cut; see "Tribute" above.
“I pledge to share and enroll people in ESP and its mission for myself and to help make the world a better place to live.”
Remember above all else, this is a very elaborate pyramid scheme. We must have new blood to feed the monster and it must be fed often.

That people, intelligent, educated, people go for this is sad and their own business. However they have now involved someone's (no one knows whose child) in this nonsence and they tried to take over Saratoga springs and change the governement so it became everybody's business. The commandments of Vanguard should be ample warning to the deluded members that this is a scam. Vanguard stole a bit from the Ten Commandments (thow shalt not steal) and from 12 step programs (going out and helping others get sober is, like here, the 12th step). Maybe that's why there are 12 not ten. However most of these are straight out of Ayn Rand's "Objectivism" philosophy. The man does not have an original thought! Thanks, John.

These 12 commandments obviously don't include the other 5 that VanFraud only requires the members of his harem to follow:

It's a human pyramid scheme.
Raniere got shut down by the gov. for creating a pyramid scheme in the 90's. So what does he do ? He goes out and buys a few Ayn Rand books and borrowes a few schientology manuals from a few friends and now you have a human pyramid scheme. i.e. nxivm.
it's still a pyramid scheme the only trouble is raniere can use the constitution to protect him because when dealing with people there are protections offered.
The goverment shold do something about this asshole asap.

He predicted in 2002 that we only had a couple of years before the world as we know it was going to end.
Just imagine if VanFraud didn't have the Bronfman millions to make the whole scheme look legit and larger than it really is. Just a two bit con man from Clifton Park with a lot of OPM. (Other People's Money)
Some people did not make it pass day one of a NXIVM intensive because they saw right through the scam of this cult like organization.
Sash’s, the Mission Statement and Rules and Rituals class were a bit too much for some.
NXIVM’s leadership labels these "fall outs" as suppressive as they could not give Keith tribute by wearing a lower ranking sash and found issue with the mission statement.
The would not be good guest by following the Rules. Why it's just like visiting someone house and they ask you to not wear your shoes into their house.
One might want to ask why the need for such measures in the first place. (sash’s, mission statement and rules and rituals) Isn't this a human potential program and nothing like a cult?
These techniques could be used to see who was more open to suggestions "authority". If you’re more open to suggestions and following than could then be used against you in further trainings, coaching and feedback.
There is a lot to be said about (and to use against) someone who will not “bow” down to the great and powerful leadership of NXIVM.
I myself, wanting to help make the world a better place to live, got myself suck in for a bit longer than the first day of NXIVM.
It cost me a great deal of money in trainings to improve myself and work through my issues, time and heart break to really understand what Keith, Nancy and the leadership of NXIVM was really up to. In my opinion, it’s not about making the world a better place to live. It is my opinion that it’s about Keith’s ability to con people into making Keith’s world a better place for him to live.
The sad thing in all this is that Keith is so well protected that it will be Nancy Salzman who takes the legal fall for most their possible wrong doings. Nancy believes that NXIVM was a gift to her from Keith. What if this was never the case and it is part of his ponzi scheme to protect himself.
It is my opinion that once Keith is through with Nancy (she's done all she can for him) he will turn on her just like he has the other entire group of woman (and men) he goes after, of course in the court system.
Nancy, if you just take the time to seek out Keith’s past you will see where he has done this pattern time and time again. I think that deep down inside you know this to be true and must be so scared for yourself.
It is my opinion that Nancy's only true way out of this, if that is even possible, is to turn state evidence on her Con Man Mentor. If Nancy chooses not to, well I hope she get's Maratha's old prison cell. It must be decorated rather nice and if you’re going to do time behind bars, well nice is a good thing.
I think you're kidding yourself if you believe Nancy is an innocent bystander. There would be nothing sad at all about her taking the fall. It would only be sad if she was the only one and the rest didn't come tumbling down with her.
Yes, let us not get into a situation where the authorities cut deals with all of them just to get to Raniere.
A large number of them have been involved with this scam at the top level.

So is everyone agreed that the Bronfmans are innocents? I never hear anyone voicing an opinion that either of them is anything but a fool.
They are misguided and for some reason were vulnerable to being taken advantage of. They got a LOT of attention when they came in (because of who they were - it's disgusting how Nancy and crew do that) and that can be very, very powerful. The books that talk about cults and what they do call it 'love bombing'. Sarah was actually sweet and seemed like a good person - i.e. easy prey.
One of the basic principles of civilised justice is the tenet of ‘Innocent until proven guilty’; it ensures fair and appropriate treatment before the law and, just as important, by extension in the eyes of society. To neglect this precept is to distance oneself from civilisation, justice, and in the end the fundamental principles that keep humanity and its society working and evolving.
Referring to NXIVM as an indivisible entity rather than group composed of individuals, fellow human beings, is a blatant generalisation that proves nothing but ignorance of the complexities and nuances of the situation and indeed the realities of life; and de facto enforces the teachings and worst fears within NXIVM; and sadly rightly so, it seems. Such undifferentiated statements serve no purpose at all; unless you are out to rile the masses on either side into a frenzy you may very well not be able to stop before an outcome none of us want nor deserve. Such speeches push all to extremes and are counter-productive to either cause, destructive of society and even to yourselves, for they harden the minds and hearts of all involved to a point were civility and justice is no longer possible, making everybody into the very things we all abhor.
Nobody likes to be labelled and thrown into a single pot of vague distinction, neither non-espians nor espians. The far more tragic occurrence though is that by generalising and potting in such a manner, the ones labelling the others are categorising themselves just as indiscriminately, unjustifiably and damningly: They, by their own actions, justly are thrown into a pot of highly questionable content themselves. Partisanship and confrontational attitudes breed nothing but further conflict and discontent.
I understand that some of you on either side have been hurt; yet do you really think that an eye for an eye, or worse, a full head for an eye, will sooth the pain or heal the rifts? Furthermore, can any of you honestly say that you have never done anything wrong in your entire lives? For, if you pursue this path of collective punishment, of vendetta and drumheads, of neglecting basic human rights and essentially calling for categorical injustice committed in your name, whatever side you’re on, are you not in fact inviting the same treatment on your head, justifying the rule of hatred rather than that of equal justice, and ultimately destroying the very essence of what civilised society represents? I’m not a religious person, yet in light of all this, I do find ‘Let he who is without sin cast the first stone’ a rather considerate statement, wouldn’t you agree? For who among us has the right to weigh another human being and find them wanting? Who among us ever has the right to pass collective judgment?
Let those who have committed an actual crime be punished by the law; yet do not penalize those who have not in the court of public opinion; it’s never fair, factual, nor rational, and marginalises only further. So, please, whether you’re a nxian or non-nxian; let’s first look at the personal complexities of each individual case before we pass judgement on each other and thus give cause to further grievances. ‘Innocent until proven guilty’ under due process and consideration of all available information is the only way to ensure a sustainable and fair system of justice that does favour neither the one nor the other and thus, as harsh as it may be at times, serves all humans equally.
The Bronfman sisters seem to have been easy prey.
Sara is reported to have been so nice. Sara was most likely the first prey. Clare most likely was going to take longer as she had her goal of becoming part of the Olympic equestrian team. When she failed to make the team in the last summer Olympic trials it appears she gave up riding and became more involved with NXIVM.
Are they innocent? Me think not at this point. Maybe when they first came into NXIVM they were conned by VanFruad and the Not So Nice Nurse. But they have been involved for years and there is too much information out about VanFruad, the Not So Nice Nurse and the leadership team for the Bronfman sisters to remain what seems like “brainless” about the dealing of the Con Man / Con Woman at the top of NXIVM.
Together these sisters must be spending what seems millions upon millions of dollars with their dealing within NXIVM. Based on court records of failed business deals, all their legal battles - not only in their legal battles but they must be helping NXIVM fight Rick Ross and others. Can NXIVM be making that much money in their trainings to keep the door of NXIVM open and pay all the legal fees they have?
What about all political contributions, private jet rides for the NXIVM leadership and their political connections, plus all the Bronfman foundations (which all seem to be the brain children of VanFraud and directly a part of NXIVM).
This information is pubic record through court documents and the media. If it is untrue that millions upon millions have and are being spent please correct this information so we the public get our facts right.
Why would the Brofmans sisters not want to be open to hearing what the their parents, their family, friends outside of NXIVM, and the general public have to say about VanFraud and his leadership team?
Based on the information on the WIOP website NXIVM teaches that having more information helps people to make a better decision. Does this mean only information that comes from within NXIVM?
It kind of like when you’re dating someone and your family and friends cannot stand the person but you are so blindly in love (ya right) that you cannot see the person for who they really are. At least not until you get screwed over by them.
These types of behavior make me and others believe more and more that NXIVM is a cult. Cults have a way of "fencing in people’s minds" and their followers become what some of us call “brain dead” to anything other than what the cult tells them is true (or in NXIVM case Reality).
You don't need a compound to keep people in when their minds are shut off from what people outside the fence have to say.
It appears many family members and friends have “lost” their love ones to the spell of VanFraud and the Not So Nice Nurse.
John you have to have this as your front page till at least Tuesday so those who have not made a visit to the blog over the weekend can read and comment on this. It's way over the top.
You can give the Bronfmans (or anyone else for
that matter) a “free pass” for getting involved. But they (and everyone else in similar circumstances) must be held accountable for staying involved – and for all of the pain and suffering that their involvement caused to others.
Via that same thinking, Bouchey must be held
accountable for her long term involvement in
NXIVM’s hierarchy and, even more so, for her long term sexual involvement with Raniere. And what about the hundreds/thousands of people that she recruited into NXIVM? Isn’t she also
responsible for what happened to them.
In situations like this, over-thinking can be a real problem. Instead, let’s tear this entire structure down and let the judicial system sort out the innocent ones from the guilty ones.
PS/Without the Bronfmans' money, there wouldn't be any NXIVM. For that reason, they must be treated as the real owners of the cult.
It would be interesting to know who brought the Bronfman's into the cult. Anyone out there with this information?
Also, does Raniere have a family? Parents, siblings, Aunts, Uncles? Do they belong to the cult, if they exist, or do they approve of him and his business?
These are questions I have never seen answers to. Maybe someone knows the answers.

yes sometimes I feel your pain. I see the crap day in and day out in the Saratogian and I just want to scream BUT
There isn't a vote on Charter change till November{i will have a lot to say on that} and the council isn't up for election this year. So I think I can put city politics on hold for a while anyway. But I will be back.
In the meantime NXIVM is coming to a boil with V-Week and all. So for now at least, I will be concentrating on NXIVM. I also like the comments on this topic and will leave it up till Wednesday.
I think anyone who is still a member of NXIVM has let their critical thinking skills deteriorate. Whether intentionally or not is a question of whether the group uses thought reform or brainwashing, which seems highly probable. So, we cannot castigate all of these individuals or blame them other than partially using the same standards. The true evil are those who have full knowledge of the use these manipulative methods and must be held accountable based on hierarchy, starting at the top with VanFraud, regardless of whether it is "legal" or not, because it is clearly unethical. It is in indeed VanFraud's con to isolate himself with these legal "loopholes" so he cannot be held accountable in a court of law. Clearly, any person who is in a right state of mind (not brainwashed) would consider it as narcissistic and self-aggrandizing that someone would celebrate their own birthday for eight days and would not participate in such an event. Even Christians only celebrate Jesus' birthday for one day in the year, and they consider him the "son of God".

John, maybe it is time for a public meeting on NXIVM and Saratoga. Imagine a meeting in the Library. We invite Val and others plus the media. It would force the Saratogian to take notice.
I agree to some degree that the people who join and participate aren't all criminals. I know some members and the one thing I find is that they seem to believe everything they're told to believe and they believe it with conviction. It would be difficult, at best, to make them see things from a different perspective. In fact, I believe it would be near impossible to make them change their perception of Raniere and Salzman unless it came down to money- their money- which is why most of them leave.
They are brainwashed to a degree I don't understand yet and I have followed the group for a long, long time, well before this blogger even knew nxivm existed. Having said that, if a member recruited someone whose marriage failed or who cut ties to their family, I would think they are somewhat responsible for that. If a nxian knows where the child came from and the circumstances of his arrival are not kosher, they are responsible to share that information with authorities.
Being true to nxivm makes you untrue to the reality of "humanity" in the world we live in.
With all due respect, not being able to get a building permit affects me right now, and my contractor (and the guys he has lined up to work)... it hits them in the wallet pretty hard when they can't work... and i found about about it by reading about it in the paper, NOT from the city. No call, no explanation, no timeline, just waiting... There is no finer example of local government NOT working for the people than when the people who pay taxes are ignored by the elected officials, and kept in the dark. The building inspectors and mayor and civil service folks WERE NOT EVEN AT WORK ON FRIDAY... Nobody to talk to except a lady at the front desk who can tell you NOTHING. It is shameful.
I do feel bad about the poor man who can't get a building permit! This NXIVM story is coming to a head and I think it may implode soon. Hopefully then John can get back to regular Saratoga stuff.
The cult always rides out the storms that pop up every few months, they law low and the probing eyes lose interest for a bit.
But we can't let that happen this time, with the questions surrounding the young boy. We owe it to him.
