And they wonder why I call this blog “Saratoga in Decline”

Well more bad news for downtown businesses when the Lillians parking lot was closed indefinitely after a partial collapse this morning. Police were made aware of the situation at 6:36 a.m. The police prudently blocked off the lot. Deputy Commissioner of Public Works Tim Cogan and Director of Risk and Safety Marylin Rivers, arrived the scene shortly before 9 a.m. followed by Accounts Commissioner John Franck, his deputy Michelle Boxley, Deputy Mayor Shauna Sutton and Public Safety Commissioner Richard Wirth.

So where was Commissioner of Public Works Anthony “Skip” Scirocco? Who the fuck knows. Sources say, when he is around he locks himself in his mancave for important “meetings” with DPW Office Manager and President of the City Hall unit of CSEA union Kathy Moran (2009 salary $62,258).

So the parking just got a hell of a lot worse in Saratoga. I took a little stroll down Broadway today at about 1:30 and took these shots. I never did see a Parking enforcement Officer or any tickets on any car.

I love this lazy fuck. All the space in the world and he still has to crowd the handicap spot

Why bother to park your truck in an empty commercial space when you can double park with immunity?

I love this guy. He double parks daily, never a ticket

Illegally parked in a commercial zone

Double parked in front of Saratoga Arms

Illegally Parked in a Commercial zone in front of City Hall and not a ticket on it

People even illegally park in front of the Police Station

Who's afraid of the Police? 100 feet from Police Station and he could care less

As this shot shows ,all the Commercial spots in the world, why bother to use them when you know you won't get a ticket?

I took all of this shots in a 20 minute stroll today April 29 from 1:20 till 1:40. I did see black and whites drive by but not a single cop walking the beat or any of our 60k+parking enforcement officers.

Illegal immigrants in Saratoga Springs, everyone’s favorite punching bag.

The trial of Hernandez-Perez on 15 charges, including kidnapping, assault, robbery and criminal possession of a weapon in the attack on Melissa Diggins has put a very bright light on the growing problem of illegal immigrants in the area. Hernandez-Perez an El Salvador native was in this country illegally and was employed at the now closed{they did have shitty food; no loss} Big Apple restaurant on South Broadway.

Unfortunately it has also brought out some long simmering anger in local people against the growing Hispanic population in the area. In a classic case of scapegoating on the Saratogian web site Victim in Saratoga Springs kidnapping on Walnut Street testifies HERE tempers were flaring in the comments with some since removed that called for vigilante type justice against the perceived Hispanic horde.

So who are these Hispanics that are moving to this area in greater and greater numbers? The vast majority, perhaps up to 99% are hard working men and women with children just trying to eke out a meager existence while trying to go unnoticed by the general population. You see them in the isles of Wal-Mart or in the back of restaurants, tired and sweating after a night of working their nuts off for little pay.

Did the Hernandez-Perez commit a horrible crime against a young hard working girl in Saratoga. Sure looks like it, but that’s for the jury to decide. Is he representative of the vast Hispanic population in the area? I don’t think so; in fact I would guess most of the local Hispanics would like to kill him for what he did.

When I see and hear people in town speaking about “them” as somehow lesser creatures or of being more criminal in nature than “us’ I want to vomit. I think of Shakespeare’s Merchant of Venice and Shylocks line “I am a Jew. Hath not a Jew eyes? hath not a Jew hands, organs, dimensions, senses, affections, passions? fed with the same food, hurt with the same weapons, subject to the same diseases, healed by the same means, warmed and cooled by the same winter and summer, as a Christian is? If you prick us, do we not bleed? if you tickle us, do we not laugh? if you poison us, do we not die?”

Well you get it. And what happens if a Hispanic child is raped by a local man? Where can she turn? What about the police ,do they have a protocol to deal with it? If and I mean if, a local man is arrested and brought to trial, will the girl and her family be deported? What if an illegal immigrant is robbed? Can he even report the crime without fear of deportation? Do we even have a Spanish speaking police officer? High school Spanish doesn’t count.

People can stick their heads in the sand and pretend these things don’t happen, but with the limited knowledge we have of the illegal community, they could of already have.

IN THE END I FEEL, THEY HAVE MORE TO FEAR FROM US, THEN WE DO FROM THEM.

Saratogian’s circulation continues to plummet

Figures released for the first three months of 2010 show the print circulation of the Saratogian reached unprecedented lows with circulation dropping over 7% from 7,583 down to 7,066. This at the same time webmaster Steve Shoe has bragged of the multiple changes he has made to the online edition such as adding SeeClickFix.

So what do I think of this?
First and foremost Barbara Lombardo, who is the managing editor of The Saratogian should go, LIKE LAST YEAR GO. Then Shoe before you claim Facebook sold us down the river.HERE. Take a hard look at the ads on your website. Could you possibly squeeze a few more in?

But the print edition is the bread and butter of any newspaper, not to mention its heart and soul and it is here that the paper is most deficient. Don’t get me wrong I feel reporter Patrick Donges is a vast improvement over Andrew Bernstein, whose most pressing concern seemed to be getting “Skip” Scirocco and Ron Kim reelected. That is when he wasn’t using the resources of webmaster Steve Shoe to unmask the names of his critics’, if only they would show that same drive to investigate the death of Meredith Lickwola.
For now it seems the papers main goal is to force charter change and push advertisers to place ads on its videos in a some what harebrained plan that backfires when placed in front of sensitive videos like Ryan Rossley’s family statement HERE as the comments suggest.

So how much longer will the Saratogain exist? Who knows, but one can assume that the recently out of bankruptcy parent company Journal Register can’t continue to carry dying papers like the Saratogian forever. But all is not lost if the paper folds, maybe Saratoga Today will pick up the slack or the Gazette will add more resources to it Saratoga coverage? The one thing that is for sure is that the Saratogian in its present form will not be missed.

Mayor to look at Charter Change

In an interview with Gazette Reporter Tatiana Zarnowski, HERE Mayor Johnson said he is considering appointing a committee himself to study the issue with an open mind to see if the Charter can be improved or needs to be scraped for a council-manager form of government. Johnson believes the City Charter could be changed to work better without throwing out the whole thing.

Declaring to Ms. Zarnowski “There are certain issues that can be modified to make things more efficient and more balanced,” He noted that in 2006, the last time government-change advocates got the issue on the ballot, it was defeated at the polls by a 2-1 ratio.

Johnson also told Tatiana that he believes the Saratoga Citizen convened with the goal of changing the form of government. “That’s fine; that’s America,” Johnson said. However, “That’s not exactly an open mind. They set out with that objective and have worked toward that objective. YOU THINK!!!!!!

Citizen Kane has made it his goal in life to change the cities form of government and tried to bully and intimidate anyone or anything that stood in his way.

He has poached peoples name without authorization and lied about the very nature of his group declaring that, during over a year of meetings, the committee considered all angles, including keeping the commission form of government.

“If tweaking it was a possibility, certainly we would have recommended that.”

Come on Pat and I’m really a closet supporter of Ron Kim.

I for one welcome the Mayor’s initiative and will seriously consider whatever recommendations it might come up with, including the council-manager form of government. Kane just has no credibility in my book and his intimidating tactics ,friends and increasing lies only reinforce that opinion.

Special thanks to Tatiana for an excellent article and apologies for poaching your quotes. I recommend to anyone to buy a Gazette both for Tatiana and Carl Strock

More lies from Charter Change group founder Pat Kane.

In a desperate attempt to somehow show widespread support for Charter Change, Pat Kane was caught telling a whopper to the weekly publication Saratoga Today last week when he said,
“Saratoga Citizen will be endeavoring to develop a consensus on these important variables from two groups. The first is a general committee of ten including Messrs. Kane and Wilkes. They will be crafting the document that would be the subject of the 2010 ballot proposition. They will be advised by an advisory committee who will consult on particular issues:

Saratoga Citizen General Committee:
Brent Wilkes
Theresa Capozzola
Patrick Kane
John Kirwin
Lori Dawson
Mary Kelly
John Kraus
Daniel DeFedericis
Bonnie Design
Richard Thompson
Advisory Committee
Matt McCabe
Matt Jones
Dave Patterson
Molly Gagne
Matt Veitch
Joanne Yepsen
Michael Perkins
(Source: Patrick Kane)”

Sounds good doesn’t it? Only one little problem in a letter printed yesterday in the very next issue of Saratoga Today, the popular City of Saratoga Springs County Supervisor Joanne Yepsen wasted no time distancing herself from the so called good government group. In a letter published in the April 23 edition of Saratoga Today she wrote

“My name was erroneously listed under the group’s advisory committee without my authorization”

I have also heard that Matt Veitch and Matt Jones have each expressed the same sentiments.

Come on Pat, has it come down to lying already. You haven’t even got the horse out of the barn yet and you’re telling one whopper after another. What next quotes from Obama and McCain that they support Charter Change. You have no support except from the same group of die hard big government job seekers. Here’s an idea. Put a clause in your Charter Change referendum stating that when it’s defeated again there will be no possibility to bring to a ballot for 5 years.
What you say, DEAL

In other news. The city held a Mardi Gras festival, where aided by perfect weather, the city saw record crowds of people and families all spending money and having a great old time. Only one little problem again, Commissioner of Public Works Anthony “Skip” Scirocco. More than once I heard comments about how shitty the town looked, trash everywhere bathrooms closed. Leave it to “Skip” Scirocco. He spends a $100,000 on park toilets that are never open. Then he can’t even find the start button for the fucking Carousel. I saw a thousands kids in Congress Park, just staring at the closed building. Come out of your mancave, kick Kathy Moran off your fucking lap and do something.

Or at least put up on signage to help people out, maybe designate certain areas of the Park as open air toilets.

I’m sick of seeing this

THE REAL LIST

Well much has been written and said about “THE LIST’ HERE

The list of parking scofflaws and I’m not here to defend them. But in this age when every dollar counts, something’s that were acceptable in the past must stop.

The question Saratogian’s should be asking is, who’s not on the list? Just like Albany had its ghost ticket operation in place for years, it has been common knowledge in town that our Police keep a list of “Special People” who are not to receive parking tickets. Who are these people, you ask? Well certain connected attorneys, off-duty cops, retired cops, people deemed friendly to the PBA, cops family members ,etc, etc, etc. Trust me I’m not on the list. So before you break out the pitch forks to harass the people on the list, take a minute to ask bicycle boy about the real list.

In the meantime when word got out that DPW was back to business as usual and hiring again. Job seekers showed up in droves to seek employment causing Katherine Moran 2009 salary $62,258.23 and head of City Hall CSEA to post signage to guide would be job seekers through the application process. After all some things fall under her duties.

The problem with Charter Change

Well I see that the usual suspects were up to no good and pushing Charter Change in my absence. Patrick Kane and everybody’s favorite Thompson the founder of NXIVM radio and publisher of the worst blog ever to hit Saratoga, little Ricky Thompson are once again making it their mission in life to enlighten the poor citizens of Saratoga and drag us out of the Dark Ages into the beautiful world of the City Manager form of government.

ONLY ONE LITTLE PROBLEM

Seems no one else wants to jump on board.

Since setting up their Facebook page over a year ago, they have amassed a grand total of 57 friends. HERE

Now to put this in perspective the Save The Skatepark Facebook page started only a month or so ago has 1,943 friends.HERE

So I would say the amount of support after endless meetings, pontificating to the masses and even convincing Barbara Lombardo editor of the Sartaogian to jump on board is about the same as the number of people joining the call to put Ronald Reagan’s face on the $50 Bill.

And that’s a shame really because many people, me included are not opposed to Charter Change out of hand. Just not from the minds of these Kim/Keehn NXIVM clowns who only want to expand the size and power of the City government so Eileen Finneran and the other unemployed professional government {Lou Benton} workers can find a soft place to land.

It’s to bad that respected local politicians that people trust like Johnson and Franck haven’t started their own truly bi-partisan committee to study the issue. So for now it appears the five headed monster is safe and secure.

RYAN ROSSLEY DEATH SHOCKER

Well the events of St Patrick’s night just keep getting stranger and stranger, a well placed City Hall source confirms State Police were the first to respond almost 20 minutes after the 911 call reporting the tragic events on Phila St. This even though the location was only blocks and seconds away from Police Headquarters in City Hall. Again while Ryan Rossley lay dying on Phila Street no City Police officer responded till after a State Trooper had arrived on the scene.

SO WHERE WERE THEY

Sources have told me that two officers were sent home shortly after 2am because police were predicting a quiet night. Mind you this was St Patrick’s night, perhaps the busiest drinking night of the year. Others undoubtedly were tied up with the booking of Meredith Lickwola, the 38-year-old Schuylerville woman, who died after she stopped breathing in the city lockup at roughly the same time as the riot.

All of this doesn’t bode well for the management and judgment of the cities much vaunted Police Dept. Something was seriously fucked up here. I don’t want people to think I am blaming this on Richard Wirth. By all accounts the man has a Herculean task to bring this force of prima donnas under control.

Years of coddling and mismanagement have left a legacy of spoiled officers and contracts guaranteeing that too many officers work Monday through Friday with weekends and nights staffed with officers collecting overtime. When Wirth cracked down on overtime, too few officers combined with dubious command decisions such as arresting, transporting and booking Meredith Lickwola have contributed indirectly or in the case of Meredith directly in the demise of these two young individuals.

We wait with bated breath for the toxology reports on Meredith Lickwola and the report from the New York State Dept of Corrections on her death. This case could be a real rainmaker for the family of Meredith Lickwola and reports tell me they are negotiating with a prominent local attorney as I type this.

Much Ado About Nothing ; City Council meeting April 20 2010

Well from the crowd and the TV cameras, you would have thought the City was legalizing Brothels instead of having a discussion about closing the bars at 2am off season. The usual nice ladies of the rape task force and substance abuse whatever, all came out in support of it. Hell they be in favor of banning the sale of Playboy magazine in Stewards. But all it was about, was having a Council discussion to look into the possibility of changing the hours.

What do I think?

Well personally I would lower the drinking age to 18 and keep the bars open 24/7 if that’s what the owner wanted to do. God knows I lost a lot of Liver cells between 2 and 4 and picked up some real beasts in my day at the witching hour of 4am. But being sober for 15 years and happily married for 20, I can see the other sides point. Either way I’m not going to get to hot and bothered about the whole debate.

Other council news

The City seems to be back to business as usual with a few new hires. Skippy who still has as much trouble talking as I do spelling, still has a problem differentiating between full and part time help, added some part time help to the Casino.
I saw Greg Benton the other day planting flowers so I guess he sneaked that one in. Hell wouldn’t be Saratoga if at least one Benton isn’t on the City payroll.

In Public Safety news; one Captain retired from shift 4 at the Fire House so the Council approved his replacement and then that vacancy and so on and so forth. Like I said business as usual.

Not much to say really, just ain’t the same with out that lovable bipolar Korean at the table. Please Ron I keep hearing the Democratic Committee is going to nominate you to run against Tedesco. Please Please Please do it. You know you’ll have my 100% support

A wakeup call for the City of Saratoga Springs Work force.

Today’s Saratogian had a very interesting story about the Cities largest employer Saratoga Hospital.

A future in lab work: Saratoga Hospital seeks to attract young scholars to overlooked field with new scholarship By MAREESA NICOSIA HERE.

As some of you know I worked for the Hospital for 10 years before leaving for Upstate Transit. I worked in various Departments in roles as diverse as Truck Driver to Hospital Security. It was in the latter role that I was subjected to physical attacks, drunks, psychos’s, piss, vomit, shit and suffered multiple injuries and at one point broke a patients wrist who had a death grip on a screaming nurse. I also had morgue duty and bio-hazardous waste disposal technician on my resume. The police then as they do today had a history of dropping off drunks, bumcicles in the winter and just about anyone else they didn’t want stinking up their Patrol cars at the ER.

We did this for little pay, shitty health insurance and no job protection. To dare to file a workmen’s comp claim was a one way ticket to the shit list and later termination when the time was right.

As The Saratoga Hospital Employee Handbook states. “The Hospital Management reserves the right to terminate employment for any reason or no reason at all.”

There is no contract, no step increases, and no guaranteed health benefit. The retirement plan consists of a 401K with minimal Hospital contributions. Raises come once a year and are based on employee performance. Each job has a top rate and if you reach it your salary has hit a wall and will not increase.

Before I sound like a disgruntled ex-employee, let me say I enjoyed very much my time working for the hospital. We knew the pay and conditions and we worked together and had a great time, it was a great experience and gave me opportunities to see and experience things, most people never get a chance to, just don’t make it a career, unless you enjoy a life of poverty.

Now that you know my qualifications to comment, let’s get back to the story. MAREESA tells of a lack of Medical Technologists a position that requires a 4 year science degree and a New York State License. Classes must be taken yearly to maintain the license.

For all of this education “Entry-level med techs can earn from $30,000 to the mid $40,000s annually. After a few years, med techs who climb the ladder can earn up to $60,000 or more.”

Along with shitty health insurance, around the clock shifts, no defined retirement plan and no job security.

Hell I could be a convicted felon, with an eight grade education watering flowers on Broadway for more than that. Fuck college I’ll just kiss Skippies ass and work for Saratoga Springs DPW.

I think it about time the cities work force looked at other jobs in the area and bring there contract demands done to earth.

They have no idea how good they have it.

-An open letter to the family of Meredith J. “M.J.” Lickwola

Time is running out for you to file a wrongful death claim against the City of Saratoga Springs. The City and the police are trying to cover their asses. They will lie and mislead you. You have 90 days to file a notice of claim against the City, if you fail to file in 90 days you forever lose the right to sue. The police know this and are hoping you don’t. I believe the police are stalling and hoping this all blows over. Even if you have no intention of suing you must still file a notice of claim to keep that option open, it is your only bargaining chip. You have no friends in government, not the police, not the DA, no one. I have lawyers that wish to speak to you. Contact me at george.kaisersoze.link27@gmail.com

I ask nothing of you and seek nothing from you, just the truth and justice.

If anyone knows the family or children of M.J. please pass this message to them. Remember the Police will lie and try to stall with empty promises and bullshit. Keep in mind the police themselves never hesitate to sue the city over their hurt feeling or lack of makeup mirrors.

My sincere sympathy for your great loss.

Still no answers in death of Meredith Lickwola.

Well tonight marks the one month anniversary of the mysterious death of Meredith Lickwola, the 38-year-old Schuylerville woman, who died after she stopped breathing in the city lockup on St Patrick’s night. Little has been said or reported about her death in the local rags and the thin blue line has maintained its traditional silence, except for the occasional beating of the proverbial police chest to proclaim their lack of responsibility in anyway, shape or form in the woman’s demise.

I for one want answers. A 38 year old woman who police describe as coherent, sober and downright happy just doesn’t drop dead. Where are the toxicology reports, it’s been a fucking month? What are you covering up? Time to call Headline News Today.

In other news the police could not be more thrilled to announce that 23-year-old Travis Carroll admitted to driving the car that killed Ryan Rossley at the same time Meredith Lickwola lay dying in her cell.

The Saratogian hit a new low in hooking up a cheesy ad to the video of the Ryan Rossley family at the court house forcing readers to endue an ad for the Varley real estate group before seeing Ryan Rossley’s family express their sadness and satisfaction with the swift guilty plea. HERE.I know your rag is short of cash Babs, but this really was tacky.

Still I’m glad the Rossley family will find some form of closure, but I must remark on the stark difference in the reaction to these two deaths.

Rossley appears on the fast tract for Canonization by the Pope as the Patron saint of bar room brawl peacemakers, Lickwola appears to be forgotten. No family statements, no press conferences no Grand Juries to investigate her death.

We now know how one victim died and at whose hand he was killed, lets hope just because the other victim was less photogenic and didn’t graduate from College, the cause of her death will also become know.

A THIRD WORLD TALE

The old man fell hard to what at one time must have been a sidewalk. From the look of agony in his eyes and the odd position of his leg it was clear it was broken and badly. Modern medical facilities were only a short ride away, but the man would first have to transverse a badly deteriorated infrastructure of potholed and impassable roads. Transport was arranged and even though pain relieving morphine was cheap and available, bureaucratic regulations forbid its use unless administered by a doctor and he was at the facility. This man who had known little but hard work and poverty for most of his life would simply have to endure. The first few miles were pretty good but then they turned down a road that was called the Ave of Pines, a road that had once cut through a beautiful forest in a State Park. Now although corrupt Park bureaucrats continued to be paid the road had deteriorated to a pot holed dirt path through a pile of stumps. The old man grimaced in pain, but at least every jarring pot hole meant he was one step closer to relief. A mile passed and the old man was within a mile or two of the hospital. Then the van stopped, the road had become a parking lot and all traffic had stopped. The main road leading to the Hospital was closed, there was no alternative route and the man regardless of the agony he would suffer, had to be hand carried the last mile. As the old man accepted his fate with a quiet dignity that a life time of suffering had given him, he looked to the sky to see a modern medevac chopper fly over head to the hospital.

So where did these events take place? A Cap-Haïtien relief hospital maybe? No folks this is a fictional account to illustrate the condition of our roads. What the fuck is up with the State Park. Millions for a new Dam and another half million to deforest the land and they can’t fix a sink hole in front of the auto museum?

AND WHAT THE FUCK IS UP WITH CHURCH ST. Millions and I mean millions to upgrade Saratoga Hospital don’t mean shit if you can’t get to it. They received millions in stimulus money to upgrade Church Street. This is the best they can do? I expect this shit in the DR or Haiti but here in the Empire State? I’m telling you, don’t get hurt and if you do save your own life and head for Glens Falls hospital. Hell no ones cares they all get paid.

On a lighter note I’m back and picked up some new ink in my travels.

Happy Easter Rising

The Easter Rising (Irish: Éirí Amach na Cásca), was an insurrection staged in Ireland during Easter Week, 1916. The Rising was mounted by Irish republicans with the aims of ending British rule in Ireland and establishing the Irish Republic. It was the most significant uprising in Ireland since the rebellion of 1798.It led to Irish Independence.

No more Toys

On of the most frequent heard criticism of this blog along with my shitty grammar is the complaint “I never offer any solution to problems.” So here are a couple

  1. All employees give back 10 percent of their wages and accept a second and third year pay freeze
  2. All employees join a common heath plan that includes mandatory Medco mail order prescription drug coverage for maintenance and long term drugs{Medco is the worlds largest drug suppler in America{that doesn’t include Luke the stud of Miami}

3. Sell all unnecessary toys

And you can start with this Illegal and Unlicensed ambulance the punch drunk Fire Department purchased back in the giddy day of El Comandante Kim. Back then the grandiose plans of the Fire House included the building of a station on the east side of the Northway and the complete take over of the cities Ambulance services by the Fire Department. That is why the Fire Department agreed to the $10,000 paycut for starting Fireman, to take out the blow to the budget that the new growth in Fire Department personal would necessitate. This was all smoke and mirrors of course as the contract terms brought the new hires back up to the regular bloated salary levels in a few years.

So confident was Kim in his ability to deliver, that he authorized the half assed purchase of this unnecessary ambulance for the Fire Department. Not only was it not necessary, but it is unlicensed and there for incapable of transporting anyone.

The Fire Department had been struggling to find a role for itself since modern building practices and fire safety measures have been implemented in older building making structure fires a rare event in this city. That lack of structure fires and the fact that Global Foundries the largest industrial development in the country is just fine along with there insurance company in relying on Volunteer Fireman for their fire protection needs, has put the whole necessity of a paid department on the table. Fireman are also being asked since they choose to live outside of town, if volunteers are good enough to protect their children, why there not good enough to protect ours?

I also predict that the solidarity between the Police and Fireman would quickly collapse if it came down to saving the Police or eliminating the paid Fire Department.

On a sad note I have to report that Dave from the Y application to e harmony has been rejected.

Danger that isn’t a census worker at your door

Trying to show the Council that Taxpayers really want to pay higher taxes the city Unions have started a campaign to intimidate the public and the City Council

Starting the week of April 5th, members of the Firefighters Union and PBA will be going door to door asking City residents to sign a petition opposing more staff reductions to Public Safety.

Refusing to give an inch in continuing contract negotiations, the Unions have gone back to the time honored tactic of bullying. All of this will be coming to a head at an Budget Workshop that will preceed the regular scheduled City Council Meeting on 4/6/10. The workshop begins at 6pm. Proposed cuts to the remaining 2010 budget will be discussed. The union will be there in force to intimidate anyone who agrees with more cuts.
