Brent like many progressive Democrats support higher Taxes and they especially love property taxes. The funny thing about property taxes is that they are a regressive tax because poorer people spend a larger percentage of their income on housing than wealthier people. A property tax is based on the value of your property. It is the same regardless of your income. If your income goes down, the tax becomes a bigger percentage of your income. But income taxes are a different story. See people like Brent know how to game the system. Take his parasitic company NEAMI, Northeast Association Management, Inc. NEAMI has been draining PERMA dry for years. Wilkes Has enjoyed a very comfortable lifestyle off premiums paid by Taxpayers to cover job related injuries to municipal workers. These premiums that are meant to cover lost wages and medical expenses end up buying a MacMansion in one of Saratoga Springs near gated communities called Waters Edge. Brent owns 5 Thames Way which he purchased for $729,900 on 9/8/2006. Not too shabby, but about as far removed from the real Saratoga as one can get. No mixed housing allowed here, just a collection of rich white dudes with their well-scrubbed kids. Brent has also grieved his assessment down to $392,700 (82% of Market Value). Yes Brent is a tricky one all right. Remember I NEVER said he did anything illegal but while he complains about the cities use of Lawyers to defend itself he has no problem hiring the best tax attorneys in the business to avoid paying taxes himself. So let’s look at his Business
Several readers contacted me to ask me several follow-up questions about my interview with wanna-be-mayor Brent Wilkes. The two most often asked questions were variants of these:
1. How could be Brent serve as the President of PERMA when it was his company, Northeast Management Association, that was being paid and not him?
2. Why did Brent want PERMA to pay his company rather than him for his services as President of the not-for-profit entity?
Well, based on what I’ve been able to figure out from talking to people who know about this type of stuff, it looks like this strange set up was simply another good old tax dodge. Yep…by having his compensation from PERMA run through his company, Brent was apparently able to shield income that would otherwise be taxed at the highest possible tax rate and charge off lots of “business expenses” like cars, insurance, meals, internet service, cable TV, cell phones, business attire, etc., etc. etc.
Here’s how it works: If old Brent had taking his roughly $6 million per year as simple taxable income, the vast majority of those funds would have been taxed at the maximum income tax rate of 35%. Instead, by funneling that $6 million per year into his company, Brent (or anyone else in his position) would have been able to charge off lots of what would otherwise have been normal living expenses – which is like paying for them with pre-tax dollars.
I’m told that there’s nothing illegal about Brent’s set up with PERMA, though one person did indicate that it’s “highly unusual” to have a not-for-profit entity basically hire a for profit company to serve as its President. And if anyone believes, as Brent claims, that he had nothing to do with the decision of PERMA’s Board of Directors to hire his company, then you need to check yourself into a hospital. You really are too far gone
Is it just me – or does it seem really strange that the Democratic candidate for mayor is employing tax schemes that the general public usually associate with Republicans at the same time that our current mayor, a Republican, is donating his entirely salary to charitable causes?
HISTORICAL FOOTNOTE: As late as 1963, the highest income tax rate in the U.S. was a staggering 91%. Yep, back then, even guys like Bill Gates and Warren Buffett would have been paying their “fair share” – and the country wasn’t running a $1.5 trillion annual deficit like we are now.
You know I just find something awfully distasteful about this guy.The people camped out in parks in this country in the name of occupy America may not even know it but they are protesting against tax dodging progressive Democrats like Wilkes who employs every trick in the book to evade paying taxes while making millions off the misery of injured workers and that’s just wrong.
He has now loaned himself more than $20,600.00 to win this campaign See HERE. Not to mention the $5000 he gave to Saratoga Citizen. Maybe I’ve just gotten cynical in my old age but I just can’t believe this clown is spending all his money to get elected for purely altruistic reasons….
I will be at the meet the candidates night this evening at 7 p.m. in the Saratoga Eagle Community Room, 45 Duplainville Road, in the Grande Industrial Park.
Hope to see you there.

Kyle,
I got 1 Temp CO for my house that has spray foam insulation in it. Of the three things that needed to be complete for my permanent CO to be issued, one was a deck (so my sliders out the back didn't have one doozy of a 5 foot step) and the other was a fire barrier for the spray foam insulation in the basement around the sill (where the joists sit on the foundation).
The Temp CO was issued in February, and within a few days the Building department was provided with material data sheet showing that the Blazelok (specifically designed and tested for this specific application) meet or exceeded the requirements as a therma/fire barrier.
Fast forward to the summer when i finaly get the deck done (another long story) and ask for my permanent CO.
They come and look at the same time as the decks final inspection, and because it isn't sheetrock, ask for the data sheet, I told them they have it....
They can't find it, and they get it again, and we wait, then i'm told it doesn't meet the requirements, and i ask why i didn't hear this in February... i wait some more, and complain aout what's going on, and they say they'll submit it to the state, and i wait some more, and finally the state approves it.
Now, here is the punch line... Kyle... the material has been used in other houses IN SARATOGA... and the state approved the material YEARS ago (for the purpose it was designed and tested for, not some crazy new use)... the wait wasn't on the state to do testing, it was waiting for the state to look at the question. It took them hours (or minutes) to actually approve the material, because it was ALREADY APPROVED. The saratoga building department simply didn't know...
So before you put too much faith in our building department to be fully knowledgeable about every aspect of modern building materials (and this isn't a slight on them, i know things change and they are busy...), stop by my house and take a look at the spray foam thermal barrier that took a total of 8 months to approve while it was already approved.
I seriously doubt the Rec Center is the Hindenburg....
8:35am... the rec center is indeed not the Hindenburg, but we believe Kyle is...
John,
Thanks for exposing more about this societal leech who is trying to take over our town, Brent Wilkes. Maybe we need to put up gates around the entire city so that we don't let any more vermin like him in.
The Mayor is donating his Mayoral salary. He is not donating the entirety of his income to charity. He seems to live pretty large as well.
Get thee to a Building Inspector. To make inspecting easy, any fireproof sheet material thats to be INSIDE the wall structure has a BLUE STAMP which can be seen from miles away. The obvious BLUE STAMP saves the Inspector/Builder from the hassle of checking each sheet for Fine Print or a Bar Code.
At our Rec Center, between the exterior brick and the interior walls, there is a forever-sealed environment of a 1-inch airspace and sheets of Orientated Strand Board (OSB)... OSB not treated with fire retardant, OSB bearing no Big Blue Stamp. But now that construction's done, you can't see what's there... or what isn't there.
Who needs the Hindenberg when we've got treated OSB? It IS treated... take Scott's word.

kyle, nobody cares! We have bigger fish to fry,we have to undig the skateboard hole..seems a 50 yr kid wants to start skateboarding before it snows...Oh,by the way before contractors covered over the walls I have pictures of the OSBs and the famed blue stamp...bank on it...and stop playing with those matches.
As someone well versed in corporate and nonprofit governance, I can say that this arrangement is very unusual and, when it occurs, it generally raises eyebrows.
On another note: this York asshole is a real piece of work, isn't he? Is he a babbling idiot in real life, too?
It really is a McMansion! Thanks, John. Now when is the main-stream press going to cover any of this stuff about wilke's past? I was not entirely surprised when the heavily Democratic leaning TU endorsed Wilkes but I am very surprised that they felt no obligation to mention the facts of Wilke's background.
Babbling idiots abound... and THEY LIE!!!!!-
http://blog.timesunion.com/opinion/wilkes-for-mayor/15769/
Isn't Wilkes for open governement? Why is he restricting access to his Brent Wilkes for Mayor facebook page, and hiding the names of his supporters then?
Khile...has been upgraded,he now is officially on "S" Watch. He is absolutely stark raving mad.
How does this idea sound:
Deputy Mayor York?
If that doesn't scare you away from voting for Wilkes, how about:
Deputy Mayor Kane?
Still not convinced? OK:
Deputy Mayor Finneran?
Of course, the scariest idea of all is the thought of this possible (from what I read and see on videos) sociopath named Brent Wilkes being Mayor of the city of Saratoga Springs.
But I do know this: after Wilkes gets demolished, Thilo Ullman needs to resign.
He was in a position to clean up the septic overflow left by the Keehn & Kim catastrophe, but he just let it lay there.
We -- the Sane Wing of the Democratic Party -- are sick & tired of watching these idiots poison our party, thereby granting control to the Republicans as a result.
We are NOT going to sit back and take it any longer.
November 9th is the day we begin the climb back.
It won't be pleasant and it won't be pretty.
GOT PHOTOGRAPHS? 1:37 PM--
Show me a photo of SAFETY-STAMPED OSB in mid-construction and I'll write the Mutha' of All Apologies. Call me at 581-1819 or send it to John, who can post it or forward it to me. All I've seen are the construction photos published on the SARATOGIAN website.
SCANDAL-BUSTIN' JOHN 8:09 AM--
I sent your story and more info to a Senior Enforcement Accountant in the NYC office of the SEC and I was just told "there's no story here." You might want to run it past a CPA and get their take. You might get a good concise sound bite of an indictment. Or not.
But please share any reader photos of the Rec Center's OSB during construction. I'll pay for postage.
York continues his nuttiness.

The SEC? What the hell does this have to do with the Securities & Exchange Commission?
Not that we belive you actually, called, but if you decide to, try these more appropriate phone numbers:
- THE NYS Dep't of State
- The NY AG's office
- The NYS Tax Dep't
- THE NYS Insurance Dep't
While you're dialing phone numbers, I might recommend Four Winds--for your own benefit.
(I get a feeling we're going to be reading about this guy on the front page of all the local newspapers very, very shortly)
5:41PM,You're now a "Doubting Thomas"?I'm looking at them now,my wife says' not to call you or I'm dead, they are very real, don't know why I took the pictures that day,I thought the blue stamp was neat,I 'm not interested in embarassing you 5:41PM.
John is up to it again. It's not like you to promote communism. You ARE a communist if you think it's wrong for Wilkes to have an expensive house. Afterall he is a lawyer who payed his way through school and earned his money to pay for his home. We all have the right to do so in America. If you get your head out of your rear for a minute you would realize that.
What is it with this issue York? First you spend years ranting about an imminent firestorm on Franklin Street and now the Recreation facility is going to be a burning inferno? Stay away from matches.
Heaven forbid there IS a fire at either of those two spots. But we'll sure know who to go hunting for, won't we?
C'mon. Wilkes' cozy little arrangement with PERMA just doesn't pass the "smell test". Kind of like Kyle Dork.
Our anonymous "WANDERING PHOTOGRAPHER" has Rec Center pictures that have NOTHING to do with embarrassing the EVIL Firebug York and EVERYTHING to do with this deadly serious debate about LIFE and DEATH. You may want to rethink and forward the pix to John.
When ANYBODY is looking to get a good picture of the DirtBall FINANCIAL schemes of Raniere or Madoff or Khadaffi, you can do no better than to seek out the expertise of the SEC. Heck, it works for the FBI and the Office of the Attorney General. By law The SEC’s jurisdiction includes "accounting fraud," what we might call “money laundering,” what John calls Brent’s “good old tax dodge.”
you realize that a good old tax dodge and money laundering are exact opposites? didnt think so.
I just let the Grand Jury sort it out
