I hate to do this but this will be a three post night. The Saratogian has stopped comments on this story HERE but feel free to comment on this blog.
You know one of the most common things I’m called is a liar. This was once again the case when I stated "Cops and Fireman aren’t drug tested". I want to thank the Saratogian for proving me right in this story
Disciplinary action still pending for Saratoga Springs firefighter arrested for crack possession.
In this story incredibly Christian Mathiesen states that Fireman and Cops are not tested but then goes on to say.
“This was an isolated incident,” Mathiesen said. The commissioner said he doesn’t think drug testing would be good for the department’s morale.
The questions was brought up in connection with the arrest of Justin Moran, a firefighter with the Saratoga Springs Fire Department for six years,
Mathiesen said there was no indication that Moran ever used crack while working.
Yea right, he was a conscientious crack head not like those other crack heads you know the poor ones. Moran needs serious treatment, not some one on one time with the employee assistance counselor. If this fireman’s problem was caught early on he might be in a residential treatment center and not a jail cell. Word on the street is he blew $100,000 on crack in the last 6 months so let’s not hear how under paid they are
I will explain this to you Chris, no one likes to be drug tested but it’s part of life. You are their boss not their friend. Let me give you some friendly advice, stop listening to “Finger” Finneran. Remember Val Keehn had her as Deputy and lost; next Ron Kim had her and deputy and lost. Get the picture?
This is not a personal issue now it’s a serious criminal issue. We want to know Does he have a job, is he being paid in jail?
This whole episode is bad for the morale of the Saratogians you really represent. Try worrying about their feeling and fuck the unions.

Channeling my mom as I explain to naughty website commenters that the site is not a democracy and they are banned #becauseisaidso
I think the current system the city uses to bill for water is demoralizing. City workers invade your house, scrutinizing your water meter. The send bills in the mail, and demand that we pay for the water we use by a certain date or time. Why can't we just use the honor system? It would be better for moral if the city just realized that we are all good people who will pay for the water we use.
great, our cops and firemen don't have to take a drug test, why is that....are they afraid that more thean half of the police and fire dept. will fail.....I think so!
emilydonahue you changing this and changing that!kinda makes me think you are afraid of the way jt does stuff .kinda like monkey see monkey do!!copying is the best form of flattery by the way!jt i love your site.you tell it like it is keep up the good work
I think it's bad for the morale of the good firemen to know that one of their own, one of the people they depend on in true life and death situations, is a crack head or heroin addict or whatever he was injecting himself with at the firehouse. If Chris thinks an addict can go 24 hours without using (firemen work 24 hour shifts) he does not understand the nature of addiction. I also think the morale of the good firefighters is affected when they know this guy is getting paid full time pay while he sits in jail and then when he sits at home using drugs. Yeah, that's good for morale, too. I wonder how many firefighters had to report this guy before he finally went out on "medical leave."
Emily Donohue and The Good Doctor are actually one person. One and the same, as they say.
Not like in church, where they say three persons in one, no, not like that.
Emily, go away.
Go find Bernstein.
I know people in the insurance industry and before they get hired by a company they must pass a drug and credit backround check, these people are not making the kind of money firefarters and wankers are making and have to pay for their own benefits !!!!!
If you go work in the insurance industry you need to have your head examined, not drug tested. Like a good neighboor get a strong Prozack
I think we should see if we should get some counselers over to Allerdice ASAP. Seems like moral is super low over there. All those carpenters, electricians, and contractors are really discouraged that the city wants them to get permits and then come and inspect their work for before that let people live in the houses. Poor guys, it's crushing their moral to be getting checked up on like this. This building inspection nonsense needs to stop
It's time we stopped harassing the local restaurant's with intrusions by the department of health! It's destroying moral of the employees having someone come in and check up on them, to make sure they're not serving rancid food. Why can't we just trust them when they say they are maintaining a clean and safe work space.
I'll tell you what breaks my moral as a taxpayer... these people from the PBA, IAFF, and CSEA demanding that we provide them with contracts guaranteeing them specific health care coverage, salaries, raises, and retirement. Why are these written contracts necessary? Can't they just trust that if they show up and do a good job the tax payers will give them fair compensation? I cry myself to sleep at night knowing that these Public Servants don't think we will offer them adequate healthcare and benefits, that we'd fail to pay them a fair wage, and that we'd neglect to promote only the most qualified candidates.
Why do we need to have so many regulations and stipulations about disciplining and terminating employees. It breaks my spirit that they feel that tax payers would unjustly dismiss any of the hardworking men or women in Saratoga Springs.
I think it's time the Commissioners got together, put their political parties aside, and demanded that the unions null and void their contracts, in the interest of improving the moral of the ENTIRE CITY.
