Time to drug test Cops and Fireman

I take no joy in writing this. City fireman Justin R. Moran, 31, a six-year employee of the Saratoga Springs Fire Department, and domestic partner Janel M. Sweet 30, and mother of two children, ages one and three, who were in the home at the time of arrest , face fifth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a felony, criminal possession of hypodermic needles, criminal possession of drug paraphernalia and endangering the welfare of a child, all misdemeanors, according to police. The latter charge stems from the couple's two children, ages one and three, being in the home at the time of arrest

I hope they both receive inpatient drug rehabilitation and not jail. Drug addiction is a tragedy in this country. That said the man has no business ever being a fireman again.

Empire ambulance drug tests and alcohol screens all its employee. Do to UNION contract rules the city doesn't drug test or alcohol test Saratoga Springs Police and Fireman . Time to change that.

My NXIVM story will be up tonight

That is sad. I thought cops and firemen were drug tested. That's a pretty strange rule. Truck drivers are tested, and, of course, private ambulance corp employees are tested. Unions....Well, I'm sure Dr. Mathieson will chaange this. I do hope this family gets help.

All city workers should be drug tested including DPW a matter of fact I know of two dpws that failed due to crack in their urine Geri Loyas pet Ricki and russel, but both still drive and have jobs.........with the city.....

Don’t be too quick to dismiss the possible positives of this precedent-setting incident—

#1- If the lowest-paid barely-getting-by (55G) member of Matthiesen’s Meatwagon Corps has access to quality crack, then any pipe-toting patient in violent withdrawal has a high likelihood of having a positive Ambulance experience where a slightly-better-paid $100G EMT staffer may be able to offer “extra” on-hand amounts of a similar product during a patient’s critical time of need.

#2- With only such a meager income (55G), the suspect’s access to a quality crack may have been organized through a special City Pricing structure arranged by The Good Dentist. So even if Commissioner Matthiesen has yet to secure an agreement with any single major insurer, it is possible that quality crack may be available at a good price through a well-negotiated contract.

Lead by example, Commissioner I-can't-risk-putting-you-at-risk-with-ANY-cuts!

JT-

Are you SERIOUS? Do you REALLY expect The Tooth Fairy to LISTEN to you??? His disdain for the Public is loud and clear in your own video post... the "Fat-Fingered Finneran" one where he "responds" to the Public Comments of the peasantry at His Council Meeting--

"Many comments were made tonight. I haven't learned a thing from the comments tonight."

His smug arrogance and his condescending tone speak volumes about what we can expect from The Commissioner with a Cavity for a Brain.

Very disturbing on so many levels. I am concerned for the children. I am also concerned about the safety of citizens and fellow firefighters relying on this gentleman for protection. I wonder how many fellow firefighters knew,at least on some level something was really wrong. Firemen work 24 hour shifts. Was he shooting heroin in the firehouse? Didn't anyone notice he was impaired? Didn't anyone notice track marks? There needs to be an investigation.

the poor little children! THAT is all I think about, because as adults THEY had choices...and they didn't love the children enough to stay clean! :((

The Saratogian - via Emily Donohue - has disabled comments on the newspapers website for the drugged fireman story.

That was after Ms. Donohue told posters (on a different story) to stop using all CAPS.

Love freedom of speech for the press...and the lack thereof for all others..

dont we all want cops & fireman to submit to drug testing? well nothing is worse than a dirty cop!but unions say no so forget about it because unions of coarse say no!!

"Emily Donohue" is an AUNT.

PLEASE no NXVIUM.
TU Sunday has it covered...
like the scumbags swarming S'toga.

I wonder if the cops buried the search warrant till after the tooth fairy had his ambulance scam in the bag?

Very sad for the children...JT,why won't the main street media ask "THE QUESTION"; "Why aren't the Police And Firemen drug tested?",who's safety is a stake here..the publics'or the dirty little secrets of the uniformed services? Is there a Doctor in the house?

Clearly this guy was messed up. Doesn't he know the only way to get high and stay out of jail is buy your junk from the dealer buying drinks for the cops.

I heard all the warning signs were there. One day, all the boys drove the truck over to Price Chopper to get some stuff for dinner. Not only did he not help them while they spent all afternoon cooking on the city's dime, he didn't even TOUCH his Tur-Duck-En!

How does being a puplic employee take away your rights protected by the 4th amendment?

You can't bash cops in one post then think they're telling the truth now.

We have to change the minset that people are guilty because a cop says so. Give him his day in court.

9:54 is right. I hope that Joe Dolan and the IAFF local 343 stand up to these cops who set this up, just like they did when the city had the NERVE to ask them to honor our flag and country without overtime compensation.

There is one thing Joe and the boys at the local 343 could do make sure there guys never get wrongfully tagged a junkie again... DEMAND DRUG TESTING!

How sad. I hope they get the help they need. I used to know them both and they are not bad people. Just made bad decisions. When I knew them both, they were incredible people. I can not imagine what could have led such good people down that road. How very sad...

Could be a lawsuit brewing. Watch your step.

Mamie, the only thing that should be brewing here is the welfare of the children and the rehab of the parents, that's the steps that should be watched and taken now.

Start digging JT, there is way, way more to this story.

The Saratogian has taken their stance, all we have now is your blog.

Don't let us down.

"Lt. John Catone said the investigation into Moran and Sweet was not prompted by any communication with the fire department"... Yea right!

Arrested while smoking crack with his girlfriend in front of the kids. Gives a whole new meaning to the term "smoke eater"

Is this Moran related at all to DPW employee at city hall, Kathy Moran?

Anonymous said...

It seems that if the city was acting in the interest of the citizens, they'd suspend ambulance operations until these things are sorted out. At the very least, citizens should be given the right to request service from the secondary provider (Empire) until the things get figured out down there.

Anonymous said...

Is it not painfully obvious, that the city is not acting in the interest of it's citizens, with this amulance scam

Go to Sunday's online sound off. Is it just me or is the comment section disabled?
The soundoff topic was EMS complaint about turning over coverage to the Firemen.
Are comments about firemen off limits now?
As in the story about the crack addict fireman?

New policy with "The Ragatogian"any comments the raise any questions about the obvious lack of TRANSPARENCY with the Public Saftey Dept.will be shut down... until further notice, has it stuck anybody else that this Mr.Moran was on involuntary medical leave since Jan 19 and as of Feb.9th The Great Deputy($70,000 a year)finneran by her own admission didn't know it,what the fuck does this THING do all day long?

If the Saratogian has new rules for posting comments on their stories, then the web editor should make those rules known.

Why do they wait until people try to comment, and then criticize the people for trying to comment. And also criticize for using CAPITAL letters. What a joke.

I know the web editor checks out this blog, so maybe this will help.

Hello Emily.
Have a nice day.

Don't these two idiots (The good doctor and Eileen) realize that "no comment" is interpreted as "screw the public, we don't care about what you think"?

At some point, they must comment, and the sooner the better -- for them. And for their image, which at this point is pretty dismal at best.

Anonymous said...

The Saratogian's policy on comments is certainly one sided, to say the least. If you ask the questions that the PBA or the IAFF local 343 don't want asked, accounts start getting turned off. I'll admit, there's been some comments that have probably hit a nerve, but they seem to be asked in a way that's honest and straight forward.

DPS employees can't expect their constant stream of questionable personal and professional behavior to be ignored. They've got to start excepting responsibility for their actions. That's everything from the way they handle arrests and interactions with people, to the way the act behind in their "private offices" to the way their unions negotiate their contracts.

Rather then banning the stream of posters from the DPS, who respond the tough questions with name calling, threats and insults, they go after the commenter who asked the tough question for being "inflammatory".

I wonder what's up with this Emily Donohoe anyway. Does she just not get it? Is she kinda like a Bernstein? Could she be the new Erin Dreyer?

Mothers are typically advised by healthcare practitioners to avoid intake of medication during pregnancy as a result of of possible teratogenic impact or the event of congenital anomalies within the fetus. After delivery, mothers also are advised to avoid intake of medicines while lactating. This is as a result of certain medications might cross the breast milk and act similar on the baby because it acts on the one who wants the drug.
