Well tonight was fun as Chris Mathiesen who for the rest of this story I will simply call the “The Tooth Fairy” made it quite clear what he thinks about Caroline Street.
1. Saratoga bars are out of control and dangerous
2. This was no workshop the “The Tooth Fairy” had made up his mind to go after Saratoga’s nightlife last year
3. He will do everything in his power to close the bars early and shut down any bar for the year that he deems excessively loud
I will let the videos speak for themselves. I will say the vast majority of the crowd was against “The Tooth Fairy”. There were the usual suspects who took no responsibility for their adult children’s actions but complained mightily that if the police had just been a better nanny their personal tragedies would have never happened. These augments are getting pretty old and while I lament the loss of life neither of their children were innocent victims. Harsh maybe but there is a price to pay when you’ve been a drunken idiot and sometimes that price is death. I also understand except by the grace of god I could have been killed in a drunken brawl in my youth. I can guarantee my mother would have laid the blame with me and not the Hub or the police or society. I’m sure a lot of people don’t like that comment but I don’t care, its time someone said it.
Most of the people were clearly against the “The Tooth Fairy”. I spoke on a couple points. One woman said people were cancelling their weddings in Saratoga due to the reputation of the bars. I pointed out that many people in this town were upset that Mazzone was scheduling $40,000 weddings at the Hall of Springs at the same time as Phish concerts at SPAC. I then mentioned Phish will be here for three nights and Dave Mathews for two and maybe Executive Director of SPAC Marcia White who made $300,000 last year should be at his little workshop.
I also pointed out that while he complains that DWI arrests are down in the city I pointed out that they are down statewide and unless he has empirical evidence that the number of DWI accidents are up, then his augment that he needs more cops for better enforcement is bullshit.
But I was wasting my time as was everyone else who disagrees with him. Mathiesen has made up his mind and he’ll never let a few facts get in the way of his agenda. I just hope the damage he is causing to this city can be minimized till he’s voted out of office
But then again if the bars are forced to close early Saratogians won't be forced to watch drunken scenes like this

Why doesn't Toothy clean up his own house before he starts running out to change the world. Could the problem be the cops and not the accused? What has been done inside the police department to train the officers we have to handle these situations?
Seems these situations often hit a boiling point when the officers escalate the situation, looking for an excuse to bang heads.
If the situation is so HORRIBLE downtown, why hasn't anyone complained to Jim Murphy about why none of the charges we read about ever seem to stick? If you read about 5 charges against a suspect, they're probably lucky to get a plea to one violation. The evidence is never there.
Madigan is on the city council acting like that in public what a laugh. Hanging with none other than Eileen "the dream" at gaffneys.
Getting down to the bare bones. This guy and his department have established and are reinforcing their position that their job is to protect people, usually from themselves. Their job is to enforce the law, no more - no less.
There is no reason the bars need to be open until 4AM. If you can't get lucky by 2AM, the extra couple hours ain't gonna help you.
When I lived just a couple exits South, I would NEVER go into Saratoga at night, especially during the damn racing season. Not because of crime, but because you can't park anyplace and it's too damn crowded.

Mark Strauss, property owner and business man complained of vomit and urine in the doorways of his apartment building causing is tenants to move.
Maybe Mark the real reason they move is that most of your buildings are run down shit holes.You should be sited as a downtown slumlord with some of the highest rents and Saratoga

I was sitting next to a woman who works at a local hotel and she said the wedding business at her hotel and at most of the others in town is up. I guess that knucklehead should have done her homework the way the guy from Gaffney's did.

As a musician and someone who makes part of his living because of the bars in Saratoga, I think the goody-two-shoes need to shut the fuck up. The bars make money until 4 am, which add to the tax base and add to my pocket. Closing these bars early forces bar owners to lose money, and will lead to people going to Albany so they can party until 4 like the rest of the state.
These dummies want the money that the bars make, but aren't willing to put up with any inconvenience. Thus, you'll end up chasing businesses out using the same tried and true liberal business killing tricks NY state is so good at. Sit on your fucking hands and shut the fuck up Toothy.
