ED SPYCHASLSKI;All in the family.

Well Saratoga in Decline has received some maintenance records for Saratoga Springs Housing Authority vehicles.

I will say one thing about Eddie he has some balls. Not only does he use a garage on his home turf Watervliet J&M motors for thousands of dollars of service work but low and behold guess who owns J&M motors?

Yep Eddies brother John. You just can’t make this shit up. So Ed picks a garage that is 54 miles round trip from the closest Housing Authority property that just by coincidence it’s owned by his brother. Looking at these bills I don’t think Eddie is getting a family discount.

All of this violates numerous HUD guidelines not to mention just like Ed the whole thing stinks.

You can find more bills HERE

And for a special satirical look at the "whiteness" of Saratoga check out my friend the Original Ben Arnold formerly of (Dis)utopia of Saratoga at

Now that boy can write.

As director, Ed wouldn't have done this alone. He wasn't signing the checks, and making the appointments. Who is under him who kept their mouth shut about this the whole time? Who was responsible for the books over there.

Ed's contract is a nightmare, and I'm glad to see that it's being handled with some caution. If there's a chance he can get canned, and NOT walk with his salary for the next 4 years, I'm all for it. However, these documents show that his staff was negligent as well, so let's start with clearing some of them out.

This clear violation of HUD and Authority written policy should clearly be "cause" to terminate Mr. Ed's contract without having to pay the remaining years. Bye bye Eddie!!!

This is disgusting. This violates his contract, therefore he should be fired without compensation. If he isn't, then people are really really stupid or he's blackmailing them, those would be the only reasons I think of for why they'd keep him. As horrible as some of the rest of the staff are, he just might threaten them too with loss of a job. After all of this, he might not even be able to get a job flipping burgers. I like mine well done, Ed!

Oil change charges are all over the price board - and all at a higher cost than any place I've ever seen.

Anyone check the current inspection sticker - looks like Ed was two months overdue from 2010 to 2011.

Can't wait to hear Mrs. Spychalski's explanation for this pile of bullshit!

Wiper blades are made of gold.
Oil was shipped directly from Dubai.

This is disgusting, and criminal. The more you dig, the more sh*t you find. As you say, you can't make this stuff up.

So Anonymous One, your saying that some underling decided to use Ed's brothers garage on his or her own acord? Sure. And there are no checks, just invoices sent to someone else to pay. But on a more serious note....Do my eyes deceive me, or did the same Jeep with the same license plate need need a serpentine belt at 38190 miles and 44430 miles? Hope the DA asks the garage for the invoices the garage would have gotten from the supplier and then checks the suppliers sales records!

I'm speechless, I'm not surprised but this is beyond belief. What do you have to say now Burnelle? Keep digging....

I don't live in the city of S Springs but I am a county resident. This is just absurd. Heads should be rolling like yesterday.

@7:34 - Not saying that the underling chose the garage themselves, but they should have noticed they were sending a check 30 miles away for routine service. Maybe recognized the shop owner had the same name as the housing director.

If you're not part of the solution, you're part of the problem. Doesn't hurt to ask some questions about who signed the checks and kept the books. That person is going to have a choice to make, toss Ed under the bus, or take the hit for Housing Authority guidelines themselves.

To be clear, I'm not saying that the person who wrote the checks and logged those bills should be off the hook. If they don't notice something like that, we can surely find someone better. It's a matter of how much of the heat they are willing to take.

From what we've been hearing, Ed isn't the only problem in the Housing Authority, looks like we just got another opportunity to clean house.

at the start of this whole bedbug issue (8 months ago), I told ed and the rest of the office that if the bedbug problem was not taking care of right away that there would be serious blow back on this. Well ed, I warned you....but you just wanted to be a big shot and try and hide everything.....not working so good is it? If I was'nt leaving....ed and the SSHA would've heard from my lawyer by now.

JT--you were right about bedbugs at the Terrace. They've been treating units over there. They have also been back doing more treatments at Stonequist in spite of the public reports that that problem was solved. Check it out. Guess Ed shouldn't have gotten rid of Starring doing regular inspections. Guess he had to save money, though, so he could afford to have his brother work on his agency vehicle. Oh, wait a minute I thought the truck was the vehicle the agency gave him to drive. But the Jeep had his EZ pass too....How many vehicles does he get?? Is this Ed's private fleet of cars? Nice perks

As to those gold plated windshield wipers--the list price is $24.53 but you can get them for $16.99--not the $39.97 Ed's brother charged. Check it out on Amazon.com

I've noticed the Daily Gazette has been covering the Schenectady City Council looking at whether police there should be allowed to take city cars home at night. It's an interesting conversation they're having there reflecting on how many now taking city cars home could just drive in to work if necessary and switch to a city car there. Which brings us to Gerard Hawthorn taking an SSHA truck home every night. Why can't he drive from his home on VanDam St in his own vehicle if necessary and then switch to a SSHA vehicle if necessary. It's not like he's an oncall EMT and seconds count. And I wonder if he's been reporting this little perk he's been taking to the IRS. Inquiring minds want to know!

Speaking of Gerard Hawthorn, what was that fumbled dog and pony show Johanna and Ed tried to pull of at the last SSHA meeting to explain why Gerard never took a Civil Service test for his position. Ed mumbled something about the test results being down at Civil Service but of course they're not because no test was ever given for Gerard's position. This happened allegedly because no one else wanted the job. But did anyone ask for proof that Ed had advertised the job and got no response. Hard to believe no one else was interested in applying for a job that pays the big bucks Gerard gets and a car too. Isn't it time Gerard's position is looked at more closely. And doesn't his wife work there as well. Does she report to him? Sweet deal, Gerard

Usually when "no one else wanted the job" it is because the job requirements were made much too specific on purpose, to exclude everyone but the desired candidate. Civil service is not supposed to allow this, but they do.
The cars with the same plate with the same repairs twice could just be a data entry mistake at the garage. If you type in the owner's name, sometimes there is an automatic fill-in of data like vin and plate number, the person filling out the record doesn't always notice and change the entry to correspond to the current vehicle being repaired. This mistake is supposed to be caught by whoever audits the invoices, and corrected. Very sloppy record keeping.

JT-has Al C told you what went on at the secret and apparently illegal SSHA Board meeting this afternoon? Can you share the info with us? A report that the meeting was held is up on the Saratogisn website.

While you're digging, check out to see if there are any Gurby's that are or were on the payroll, which is Ed's wife's maiden name.

I'm not a lawyer but someone may want to look at a court case regarding employment contract
MATTER JOHN D. LAKE v. BINGHAMTON HOUSING AUTHORITY ET AL. (05/28/87) very interesting.

To Al C--you are a good person with a reputation for high integrity but you have now participated in an illegal and ill concieved meeting of the SSHA Board. Brunelle, Weller et al have seen their reputations go down the tubes, sacrificed on the alter of protecting Ed Spychalski and all his dealings. Who knows why. Yours can still be salvaged by shining light on the doings at the meeting today. This meeting should have been public. Be brave and be our hero and tell us what the public is entitled to know--what was this meeting about??
