Let me start by saying I am unequivocally against the city manager form of government. I believe having an unelected potentate is undemocratic.
That said since Saratoga Citizen has cleared all the legal hurdles, the issue deserves its day at the polls. Anything else would be equally undemocratic.
I have nothing personal against Pat Kane. Sure he is a touch bombastic, with a streak of arrogance but most politicians {and make no mistake he is a politician} share similar traits.
And just to be clear I supported the lawsuit challenging their petition and the further appeal but they have been fully adjudicated and right or wrong Saratoga Citizen prevailed, so be it.
Time to let the full citizenry of this fair city voice their own opinion at the polls.
So let the games begin.

Well-said...in your own inimitable way. You may have let Pat off fairly easy... but I'll bet a Mayoral Legal Fund that you will soon rise up to absolutely SLAY Bret Wilkes as the debate heats up. But at least you have the integrity to let folks know where you stand.
Say what you want about Pat Kane or Brent Wilkes but either one is a damn sight better than John Franck. Franck continues to cost taxpayers money with these lawsuits he keeps pushing. He's against Saratoga Citizen so he wastes money on Attorneys. He was against Breyo and cost us millions. When is this guy going to stop the grandstanding and do the work of he people?

The Breyo property is worth $20million. But great attornies can get amything done. That doesn't make the appraisal wrong just proves that money can buy anything especaally if you have been part of Goldman Sachs as Peter Martin as well.Company first clients second. Same scenario - politics first - taxpayers second. This wasn't the first sale of Ayco. Made major dollars selling to American Express and bought it back for pennies on a dollar. These guys know all the tricks. Still haven't seem any documentation on dollar expenditures from Saratoga Citizen. Where are their Support dollars coming from???During the ensuing months I would hope they would be professional profroma stating realistic additional operating costs and additional positions rather than approach this like Nancy Pelosi did the Obamacare. Vote for it and we'll tell you later.
I think the current system of government may be unique but it works very well. I see no reason to change. I still can't believe Pat Kane stuck his own name into the referendum - can we change that? I don't think people realize it. The arrogance is amazing.

What I still don't get, is that if city managers are such a great asset to a city, and can help it run so much smoother, why are a we giving them a larger salary, rather then having their salary based on a sort of commission system. They find ways to save the city money, they reap the rewards.
Would it be possible to put the city manager position out to bid? Allow several city managers to examine our set up, and finances, and present their plans on how we should run the city. Essentially put the City Manager position out to bid, rather then just adding another mouth to feed to our already bloated administration.
Pat Kane back in Glens Falls was never accused of being the sharpest tool in the shed,in all realty Peter Martin might be using Kane to get his greedy hands on the cities coffers.
Why won't Saratoga Citizen tell us what this is going to cost?
JT,I agree with most of the artical(good likeness of pat kane..how'd you do it?.never mind I don't want to know LOL!)This has to be appealled to the higher court because if it's not...every year any group of mushrooms can launch a petiton drive..get the required signatures..and have something different put on a ballot,it becomes a drain and a total waste of taxpayers money,this isn't about a positive change for Saratoga Springs..it's about the GRUDGE this political neophite Pat Kane has against Mayor Johnson.The Commission Form of Government works here in this city and has proved it over and over again,this has to be appealled for the sake of the sane.
I am NOT Pat Kane and I do not hold a "GRUDGE." I simply believe there is a better way to govern other than having the part-time leadership of Public Safety being entrusted to a full-time Dentist. That is just one small problem of a system based on 2-year "visionaries" who get booted out as regular as clockwork.
