Self-appointed Commissioner of Public Morals Christian Mathiesen was in rare form. Arguing with anyone or everyone who disagreed with his agenda or opinions and no facts or laws would stand in his way. Starting with his little swamp walk then continuing to any get together of Council members, it's only a meeting if he says so. Notice? We don't need no stinkin' notice. Open meeting laws only apply to the little people not to me. Even Commissioner Franck { who wisely chose to skip the swamp boogie for that very reason} disagreed with him but Toothy was undeterred. He will only give the public notice when he feels they deserve to know.
Next, Charter Change nothing resolved. They will study it for the next council meeting and no hint from the Mayor if he has any inclination if he will appoint a Charter review commission.
Next, Discussion: Saratoga Springs Housing Authority. Franck again led the charge in a very articulate and measured tone going step by step outlining all the failures of the Board of SSHA. Then out of left field Toothy chimed in defending the Board much to the aggravation and chagrin of Commissioner Franck.
Franck is simply calling for the Council to call on the Board of the SSHA to submit a plan of correction to address their deficiencies like I don’t know, maybe hiring a Watervliet petty crook to run the show for $ 160,000 a year.
Next, Discussion and Vote: SEQRA for Zoning Text Amendment to all existing Tourist Related Business Districts (Alternative to Maple Dell request) Toothy beat that down to never, never land. After an hour augment it was tabled till next meeting. Commissioner of Public Works Anthony “Skip” Scirocco finally spoke up asking the council to keep it down as their discussions were waking up his deputy Tim Cogan {kidding}.
Next Finance and public works nothing of note.
I would like to point out that at this time it was well past 11pm.This for a meeting the started at 6pm.
Next after successfully stalling the meeting for hours Toothy got up to the plate.
His ambulance service? Thank you for asking, it’s Brilliant just Brilliant
Closing the bars? He doesn’t seem to care that he can’t legally do it, unless of course the entire county government agrees with his wise council. He will have public hearings and this time his deputy will round up the trained minions of his followers to demand the bars be shut down.

I can't shoot you JT-- Doctor Laughing Gas would simply have me arrested as another crazed cretin from the curb of Caroline Street, caught in an act of late-night callousness.
The BEST we can hope for is that Commissioner Nitrous and ALL Council members will show some shred of respect for The Common Man by NOT pursuing a drastic rewrite of the proposed Charter.
Commissioner Franck is right to "correct" the dates and minutiae in the current Saratoga Citizen proposal AS IS, flaws and all. It may pass, it may get trounced... but it will be the FIRST EVER proposal crafted and conceived OUTSIDE of City Hall and NOT the work of "The Usual Suspects." Like it or hate it, the proposed change is uniquely fresh in its firm 4-year grass-roots foundation.
As was urged at the microphone, let it have its "Day in Court." Let "The People" have a crack at bringing City Government out of the Stone Age.
If we entrust it all to a shiny new "Mayoral Commission," it's like turning over a Bill Gates' design to Fred Flintstone-- Delivered yet another one of those rush jobs, somebody slay me with a stale pizza crust and a slingshot.
The Mayor is in a whole different league than these clowns.

Right now lurking in a small garage somewhere in the back streets of the spa city a small group of grassrooters are about to launch a petition drive to put on the ballot of 2013 a vote to change to a Strong Mayor form of gov't,this is another turning point in the battle of "Lets Be Like Everybody Else"(especially Watertown) 0 tax increase for 2012 why change the form of gov't? Why are people who HAVE NO experience in Gov't attempting to educate the Public on a form of gov't they know nothing about?...Wake-up Saratogians we just might wind up with something to really bitch about! "No Change"!

These city council meetings start at 6:00 pm and don't get over until 12:30 am, for simple everyday mundane agenda items, saratoga county meeting are fast and to the point. So are wilton's, troy's, albany, and all the other city, towns and villages in all of saratoga county. The tooth fairy needs to read all the agenda items before each meeting. the tooth fairy needs to stop beating that dead horse to death because the horse is dead and you can't beat the horse anymore, so stop it. The tooth fairy likes to hear his own voice. I had to turn off the city council meeting about 10:30 pm before I screamed for all the bullshit that went on..
Does anyone know if our fearless Public Safety Commissioner scheduled a public hearing on the earlier closing time?

Simple solution to everything that came out of last night meeting. Why doesn't Citizen Pat show us all how much we need a City Manager by trying win us over with the method that's worked so well for drug dealers and BJ's Wholesale Clubs, and offer us a taste for free.
Why doesn't Citizen Pat get his good friend Brent Wilkes to pull his finest city manager from his stable, and have them explain to us, the lowly citizens, how a PROFESSIONAL would fix the SHA mess, straighten out the ambulance fiasco, keep the streets safe, and make sure all the meetings are properly disclosed. With all the money the insight of a PROFESSIONAL MANAGER will save us, we can buy the swap land on the Kaydeross, and still have enough left over to cut taxes.

John Franck is about as swift as Jason "Let me hold that stool Geri" Gross. That idiot needs to stick to what he knows. This could be meant for either one. They both work with their hands. One has his hands in the pockets of local developers and the other in the pockets of his supervisor.

Time for an all Republican council. Franck,Madigan and Matthisen all need to go. Sad, only three months into it. I miss the days of Matt MCabe. He was the only one with any sense.
Nice to see the rioters, murderers, staggering drunks and other rabble rousers took the night off when Travel and Leisure was in town taking photos as they named Broadway one of America's Greatest Main Streets. Commissioner Mathiesen, how could this have happened in such a dangerous downtown?

Besides Matheisen's personal friendship with Lillian Miles do I detect the hand of the lovely Eileen Finneran here? After all she was deputy to the Mayor from Hell, Val Keehn, who gave us Ed and Denny. So what role is she playing in this tact of Matheisen that seems to be suggesting that poor Ed and the poor Board have been misunderstood. This is all just a faiure to communicate--right, Chris?
