Seems the New York State Liquor Authority, believes any roll back of barroom closing times must be done countrywide. Our intrepid Commissioner of public morality Christian Mathiesen was undeterred by their opinion as he is of any opinion that differs from his own, calling it a “huddle”. The story by Saratogian reporter Lucian McCarty states that Mathiesen has described our downtown entertainment district as, "It’s out of control," calling it "dangerous" and having a toxic atmosphere.

Surely commissioner Franck will be ranting about this soon. He can't make all that $500,000 in dealings with developers if the city isn't safe. His latest rant about the city being a Hellhole is him paving the way for the New Deal on South Broadway. Talk abou t your collusion.

City Inspectors and past PS officials have already identified it as a hazard to the neighborhood... so all the Good Dentist needs to do is issue an Emergency Demolition Order. What has this bird done to alleviate or even address the impossible parking cluster-truck that has developed downtown. Oh that's right, he's on West Avenue all day.
Also, I hear the revenues from the Fire Department/Ambulance Service just ain't coming in as expected. Does the Dentist know that this revenue goes into the General Fund and can't be dedicated just to pay for the "last six in" when the grant expires?

@7:08 - spend a couple hours at the Parting Glass or City Tavern when the cops are out for white wine spritzers. See who picks up that tab. Seems there could be coke dealers (and their customers) who are on the radar, and some who kept off.
Somebody needs to call Toothy out, and get him to bring some real FACTS to the table. You can't use the SSPD yearly report, because that only gives you ARRESTS, not how many of those ARRESTS actually had evidence to support them, how many of them resulted in charges filed, and how many of those charges had enough evidence to win a CONVICTION. As we've seen from posts earlier this week, it's far from a given that ARRESTS by the SSPD will result in convictions, or that the arrests even have enough evidence to get the charges to trial.
Take a look at Toothy's big "brawl". Despite reports of chaos in the streets, and the city on a crash course to hell, we've only seen reports of one CONVICTION stemming from all those charges. 6 months in county I believe - for sending 5 cops to the hospital was it?
On the topic of that "brawl", if we're looking for ways to avoid instances like that, perhaps instead of closing the bars early, the police should be reminded to close their mouths if they have the urge to use words that might start with "N" and rhyme with "figure".
That description of the "city attorney" would seem to apply to the "assistant" not the attorney.

Anyone who criticizes Tony Izzo for the time he puts in daily on a low level salary should take the time to understand what he does on a day to day basis. Demeaning him only reflect ignorance on the part of the commentator.
I haven't heard the suspended FF was terminated. Nor have we discussed as a Council the 'No Brainer" as Commissioner franck out it as to drug testing all FFs as we have taken over a private for profit enterprise. This cannot be a part of contract negotiations. It should be mandated. Instead of committees that are not even in the responsibility of the department that accomplish little but teaching people how difficult it is to start up a business why was this not the efforts of the Planning department, Chamber of Commerce and Tourism Bureau who are having quite a time reassuring our summer visitors the city is safe. Why buy overpirced swampland that isn't under water because the level of the lake is low to settle a political promise made by a former official. No money to develop it if it can be. Why don't we ever get to the crucial matters.
As to the dollars for fire calls going to the general fund I believe you are incorrect. If in so that is the case it can easily be transferred to the department revenue section. Are we currently billing all patients. No on ehas takeen the time to tell the Public if all contracts are in order.
Take care of priorities and the nice to do's should be secondary. To take all the C priorities and leaves the A's to some other time respresents poor management ability.
Totally agee with Kyle. The building should come down. But the historical value means more to the Commissioners supporters than the danger it represents in this safe city.
Well then how many ambulance trips to the hospital will it take to pay for the whole fire dept? Please include all salaries, retirement, health and life insurance, vehicles, maintenance, national grid bills, gasoline, 207a claims etc. It would be much more practical, efficient and less costly to privatize this service. When you do the math (this is a simple equation) the actual cost to city homeowners is staggering. I would say this is a more important issue than fussing over county-wide closing times.
Privatizing is a big mistake, be careful. It's not less expensive, the economies are made on preventive maintenance, redundancy and security that finally are covered with taxpayers money.
