Dear friends of this blog. My dear friend Louise Goldstein’s mother Sophie has passed away, she was over a hundred years old. Sophie was the wife of my dentist as a child. A pillar of this cities Jewish community and a fountain of knowledge of the history of the Jewish community in Saratoga Springs this is a loss for us all. Mrs. Goldstein was a living link between the new Saratoga and the old Saratoga including the cities anti-Semitic past.
Despite her advanced age Louise never considered putting her beloved mother in a nursing home. She was in her home till the very end with Louise where she has always been at her side.
Louise has fought tirelessly as the founder of Save the Victoria pool society to protect that priceless jewel of the community. While I have been kicked out of every society and committee I have ever been on do to my outspoken views, Louise has refused to ask for my resignation from the Save the Victoria pool society.
Life in Saratoga Springs will always go on but it is a little less rich today.
The funeral is at 1pm at Shaara Tfille at 84 Weibel Ave Thursday.

I am willing to bare in my body and soul the hatred, cruelty, unfairness, injustice, the pain, the suffering, the hurt, the betrayal, and the brutality of humanity so that I can be free to live without fear and with faith to see the best in people regardless of anything.
