Outgoing SPAC Board Chairman William Dake on his way out the door is quoted as saying about the New York City Ballet “I’m not sure we’ll be able to afford them much longer” HERE
Dake estimated it costs SPAC about $1 million each to host the ballet and orchestra.
William Dake, the wizard of beer, cigarette and lottery sales went on to say. “They’ve gone through several major cost increases. People don’t realize it, but the ballet and (Philadelphia) orchestra cost us about 40 percent of our expenses each, but only generate 10 percent of attendance."
Well Bill let’s start by saying that is a disingenuous statement at best. Yes they may make up only 10% of tickets sales but that is direct revenue for SPAC.
See Marcia dearest, signed a new 10-year deal with Live Nation in 2009 to pay SPAC $1 million per year for the right to book whoever they want, at any price they want, plus you gave away the SPAC parking lots to Live Nation who now charge $10 to $50 just to park your car. That’s it and you know it Bill. SPAC gets nothing from 90% of SPAC ticket sales, because you Bill and Marcia gave away the store.
Then under your expert guidance you gave your pal Joe Bruno’s former secretary a 300% wage and benefit increase from 2005 to 2011. Yea Bill from $89,000 in 2005 to $300,000+ a BMW in 2011. Wait till Eddie reads this over at the Housing Authority.
Under White, member benefits were cut, prices were increased and Live Nation was given the keys to the Kingdom.
You have reduced the once proud Philadelphia orchestra to a Broadway show band. Now I’m forced to watch them playing a karaoke version of Yellow submarine and I’m reminded of the great 1962 classic movie Requiem for a Heavyweight with Jackie Gleason playing the corrupt and degenerate trainer of proud yet broken down fighter Mountain Rivera played by Anthony Quinn. Rivera ever proud and dignified is forced by loyalty to Gleason to take a humiliating job as a clownish wrestler to pay off the gambling debts of the lowlife Gleason.
Now it seems the NYCB and Philadelphia orchestra will be forced to lower their standards to pay off the million dollar home and 300k salary of White.
One easy answer, Dake is gone back peddling overpriced booze, butts and Hustler magazines to great masses of suckers, now just get rid of White and her contract with Live Nation. Maybe Bill, you can make White the new Scoopy bear for your ice cream?
Please bring in the State Controller to look at SPAC’s books. Find out what the relationship was and is between White and Live Nation. We know her champion and mentor Joe Bruno is a crook. You know what they say “apple don’t fall to far from the tree.”
Next I will briefly touch on the editorial in the paper today by Commissioner of Finance Michele Madigan and Public Safety Commissioner “toothy” Christian Mathiesen. HERE
First let’s talk about Toothy. Mathiesen in his editorial again stated
"There is a toxic atmosphere late at night in our nightclub district due to large crowds, excessive drinking and hostile behavior. Extra police officers and police horses are routinely brought in to control crowds and their efforts must sometimes be supplemented with county sheriff deputies and state police.
Late night use of Tasers, overtime costs and violent altercations with police are far greater than at any other time."
Of course he offers no empirical data {Christ I sound like Keith Raniere} to back up his assertion. I have asked him on numerous occasions to offer statistical analysis of arrests, logs of sheriff calls or updated crime data proving Saratoga’s downtown is dangerous or out of control, he offers none, just empty rhetoric.
People have been asking me if {seriously} Mathiesen “is all there” Today I heard from an old neighbor of Toothy from his days living with his first wife on Monroe St. Seems Toothy was no stranger to the police and neighbors have told me they saw and called the police to Toothy’s home many times for alcohol fueled disturbances. Of course that was years ago but it does offer some insight into his mental stability. In the end only time will tell.

I could continue how we have a surplus of police and fireman and DPW workers circling in their cars and trucks for hours but I must rest for the coming battles.

There's gotta be a lawyer that reads this blog. Can someone please file a defamation suit against toothy, so he has to try to back up his facts. This is absolute nonsense.
Also, can we stop talking about ARRESTS like they have anything to do with how dangerous the city is. Look at CONVICTIONS. Those are people who really did something, arrests are innocent people who police accuse of doing something. The only thing arrest numbers are good for is to compare to convictions, and see how many wasteful charges were filed against innocent people at the taxpayers expense.
Think about it, the 2011 arrests should contain all the bogus charges filed by the stalker cop before he was forced to resign. All of them were thrown out, but the still pad Toothy's numbers.

Why is anyone using tazers downtown. I'm sure parents looking to send their child to college would be happy to have their child go to Skidmore only to be tazered on Caroline St. Remember when the cops could defuse a situation with a simple "move along."

I am very concerned about the NYCB. SPAC was built partly with funds raised by Saratoga Springs citizens with the specific purpose of bringing the ballet and the orchestra to the city. It was designed for the ballet and orchestra (not for PHish concerts). The schedule for the ballet is often hard to fathom. It's pretty sad that there are fewer family friendly events (ie the Nutcracker would sell out-even in July). When the whole world is excited to see Swan lake the NYCB leaves it off the schedule. It would be a sell out. I know we are pretty pedestrian up here in the sticks milking cows and all but I think the ballet (and Ms. White) could arrange for some beautiful performances with lovely costumes for this audience, often new to ballet, and fewer stark, gray, ballets with jarring movement and robotic movements. By the way if Ms. White (who was a Bruno pick specifically to SAVE the ballet)loses the ballet then I guess she no longer needs her tax payer paid apartment in Manhatten, her BMW or her extravagant salary for a part time job. It's ridiculous. she saw what happened to Chesborough when he tried to kill the ballet. Maybe she can join him on the unemployment line. There's not a lot of work out there for Bruno cronies.

I was at the pre-agenda meeting at 9am on a Monday morning in city hall.
