City Council 6/05/2012: Lunacy reigns supreme

Well the City Council passed the resolution asking the county to change the closing time of bars countywide to 3am.
So who voted for it and who against?
The Commissioner of Finance Michele Madigan, voted yes. Commissioner blue bunny was doing an imitation of a younger Marylou Whitney tonight as she sported a very large ruby necklace. Michele has come a long way since she told me she was a libertarian who was against wearing seat belts in a Democratic club meeting {I have since been kicked out of that club and was one of the founders}

John P. Franck, Commissioner of Accounts voted yes. John said on the record five weeks ago that “I don't feel comfortable telling the Town of Day what time their bars should close". Not only is John very comfortable telling the Town of Day but he now comfortable telling the Town of Clifton Park what time the largest night club in the area Northern lights should close. Perhaps he would like to tell Waterford what time their Tugboat roundup should end?

Anthony “Skip” Scirocco, Commissioner of Public Works. voted no. A little common sense from the man who can’t seem to plant a flower on Broadway. I find it hard to believe that Skippy was the only voice of reason.

And of course Captain Lunacy himself Public Safety Commissioner “toothy” Christian Mathiesen was giddy with excitement on the passage of his little manifesto.

Next up Public Safety Commissioner “toothy” Christian Mathiesen proposes banning the sale of sugary drinks in the city. And in another shocking move Commissioner of Finance Michele Madigan set aside a hundred years of precedent by usurping the Mayors department by calling for a vote for a very controversial reappointment to the City Service commission of one Rob Mains. Mains who was appointed by Val Keehn is the husband of planning board member Amy Durland. Amy is the planning boards communist in residence whom was also appointed by Val Keehn. No word if Madigan will also try to reappoint her to the planning board when her term expires at the end of the year? Yes Michele thinks she is wearing the cities crown jewels but in the end its Deputy Commissioner of Public Safety Eileen Finneran who wears the pants on the council.

Till next time good night. And remember elections are next year.

Whereas JT gave of his personal time to report on the agenda as well as report on the city council meeting, and

Whereas, it was nice to hear his report about Mad-again's jewelry, and

Whereas, "adverse effects' exist in Saratoga Springs, and

Whereas, the city council has voted to create more adverse publicity for the city of Saratoga Springs,

it is therfore, futile to bring logic and facts to the discussion.

So I guess we all know what John Franck is.

Toothy won't be Commish after the next election. His toxic attitude will be history.
John Franck will have an opponent also, who will be asking why his assessment on his own property are so low.

I am very disappointed that Franck put aside his principles and voted yes on a proposal he knows is a useless waste of time. Amazing that Mathieson was able to out manipulate his fellow Dems and force a vote on this stupid proposal that will never pass county wide. Kudos to Scirocco.

Plenty of back room deals were made in the past couple of weeks.

Franck must have been promised something by the good doctor.

Madigan is just an air head, will be gone with Mateethson next election.

5:41,
Just call the Dept of State/real property,,, in Albany they can investigate your claims,it is their job.....

I am all for closing the bars early on one condition. I want Dr. Mathieson to voluntarily agree to a cut in the police budget. Isn't that his argument. I want it voted on at the next Council meeting.

He kept a campaign promise that's all I don't think it's something you want to dig in on,the ot will find another spot it's endemic in that dept.On another note I think this Betty French fiasco in Public Works needs to be looked into...Phil Diamond as usual raised some interesting questions in regards to how the very sexy Ms. French is being treated in that dept.....how do you go from managing The Congress Park and Casino to counting rakes at the city garage, were's Lucian Mcarty on this one?

Just remember, if Commish Matheisen gets his way and the charter is changed you'll have to wait 4 years to vote him out of office, not two if he's on the Council.

What about Betty French?????

Tell me more. Am I supposed to know what 10:47 is referencing?

sounds to me John you're on the take

I just got a hold of The Mad Detist's agenda for the next City Council session:

1) Closing time @ 1AM. Why not, we're on a roll here!

2) Poker is outright banned in the city. We can't let this Parting Glass thing gain a foothold!

3) No sex between unmarried persons. It says so in this book I was given last Xmas.

4) $100,000 line item funding for the Juan Kim statue in Congress Park. My inspiration.

5) Beer sales at the race track will be halted after the 5th Race. No beer sales at all on Sunday.

6) As a matter of fact, no racing on Sunday.

7) None of this new stuff the kids call rock and roll is allowed at SPAC.

8) John Tighe is hereby banned from all Council Agenda meetings. Letting him attend the nigh time Council meetings is already more than I can handle.

9) Bars are hereby forbidden from serving free pretzels. We know what they're doing here: making people thirsty so they drink more beer! None of that!

10) A resolution to re-name the Council chambers the Val Keehn Room.

Anon,Betty French is the lady in red.

10:47 It simple & very logical. You can go from managing the casino & congress park by being friends with the McTygues, increasing revenue & taking care of congress park.

2:52 She was a supervisor at congress park & casino. Now she's working at the city garage handing out rackes to employees, a labor job for supervisor pay.

Why doesn't the local paper go after scirocco the way they went after Mctygue?

Check out Lucian McCarty's blog (text below).
It seems to me that Madigan does not agree that last call should be changed but Toothy would not give up - she had to find a way to be a team player on this one. Rumor mill says the reason toothy pulled this at the last meeting is because Madigan told him she would not vote for his resolution saying the council agreed last call should be changed to 3:00.
Her statement before the vote was a clear message to the county BoS that she is not encouraging them to change, it is up to them and she really does not want to deal with toothy's last call nonsense anymore.
She was masterful at convincing him and his peeps that she was supporting him when in fact she found a way to move it off the council table without having to vote yea or nay on the issue. she kicked it to where it should have been all along, and where it will likely die of neglect.
Toothy looked like such a bufoon last night, a shame JT did not post footage of him rambling during his joke of a "presentation".
From Lucian (http://saratogacitydesk.blogspot.com/2012/06/last-call-politics.html)
Madigan called me this evening to explain her stance on last call in the county and the vote she cast Tuesday night.

"I just want to see this issue solved once and for all," she said, adding she did not think it was "politics as usual" as my tag indicates.
"I’m completely disinterested in this issue, and the county needs to solve it or this issue is going to keep coming up year after year after year," she said.

"All I wanted to do was kick it to the county," she said. "If the county board of Supervisors wants to change last call, fine."

Madigan, though, said she thinks the issue was being rushed.

"I think the bar owners are working with the city hand-in-hand," she said. "I personally feel the city needs to give bar owners more time to see if their efforts pay off."
"This is a divisive issue. Somebody needs to look at it once and for all."

She said she was divided on the issue, but she was in favor of the county deciding. "Last night was a tough vote for me," she said.

For a city that is so overrun with crime, the police blotter pretty regularly reads that Saratoga city police have no crime to report.

SOS:

The "Fire Department" to "EMS" conversion is a losing enterprise and is costing City Taxpayers barrels of cash. Why doesn't someone FOIL the exact figures from the Finance Department.

The "Toothless Tiger" has quickly developed a reputation among members of the Press as a self-indulgent time-waster.

Anonymous said...

The EMS changeover will be a politcal football, once the figures are released.
The figures will be manipulated to look like they are actually making money, when in fact they are losing a bunch every day.

JT, did you hear the presentation by Hattie's and the other bar, I think it is seven horses or something like that?
Mike Toohey is their attorney, and the jist of it will allow the two bars to use Lena Lane for a $2000 fee.
The lane is a hundred feet long, and can seat many many patrons, and the city only gets $2000 for April to November.
It costs a person $3000 just to rent the Casino for ONE DAY, and these jokers are going to use the space all summer for one fee?
Something stinks.

If you looked at the video closely all you find are people having a great time, Police sitting in cars and three patrolman having a bullshit session with some ladies at the top of Caroline St. If that is described as good police patrol we are wasting time and money on a group that manufactures their own OT. Maybe the Commissioner should pay more attention to how Caroline St. is patrolled and less to Eileen and his old school idealism. Caroline St. should be closed off to traffic at the intersection at Broadway and only allow emergency vehicles access. Common sense and not personal opinion should be the rule. A commissioner represents the taxpayer not his won ideals and the Departemnt. Next election can't come quick enough. As for madigan the arrogance continues to glow. She needs a proper spanking and should pay more attention to the budget and failed programs that will cost the city severely. A commissioner is not elected to represent the union that put her in office.

@1:30

Did that Lena Lane nonsense get approved ?

It should be $1000.00 a week...if that gets approved - then Dango's will be closing the other end of, what was once Hamilton Lane.

Hattie's lost the battle with Lena's to get the old Beverly's spot - rumors has it that the woman who was suppose to get that site is now suing Lena's.... Lena's is losing a ton of rent money - and they have no clue on anything.
