I want to highlight a TU editorial today on Edward Spychalski’s salary HERE.I also want to highlight a great blog entry by Saratogian reporter Lucian McCarty HERE
It would seem that every local news organization along with HUD in Washington are appalled by the salary of Edward Spychalsk.
Now we have Eric Weller Chairman of the Board putting extra money into the Housing Authority legal fund. I can only imagine the money will be used to sue anyone who tries to reign in the salary of old friend ED.
This board was doomed the minute they made Mr. Arrogance Eric Weller Chairman of the Board. He just wants to go back to business as usual so he can retire back to Florida and Skype in from his sunroom.The fact is Eric Weller is a tired old liberal from the world of academia waiting to see if god exists. Not so with Ken Ivins and Al Callucci. Ken might want to throw his hat into the political ring and he was widely known as the taxpayers voice on the City Council. Al has always been a respected voice of moderation and sound fiscal practices.
Time for both to show some independence in the upcoming shitstorm. I can only hope they will do the right thing and tell Weller to go back to the everglades for not only their own sakes but the cities.

Guess what--Ken and Al both voted for Weller to be chair, voted to keep Ed's salary at its outrageous rate, voted to add $7,000 to the "travel and training" fund ( and defended it --Ken-":they're not junkets" Al--"plane fairs have gone up and these things are at awfullyexpensive places") and voted to freeze lower paid emplyees salaries just because they've showered too much money on big Ed. SSHA-the graveyard of reputations. Ken and Al have already joined the other formerly respected citizens who have fallen into Ed's orbit and just can't say "no" to him. It'd be great if they could get out from under his spell and stand up to him but they have shown little sign so far that they are able and/or willing to do that. Al & Ken are good guys; however, they are really disappointing their fans and supporters. They should apologize to the Mayor and citizens of Saratoga Springs. Then they should resign from the SSHA.
There have been a great deal of rumors/gossip about "deals" and "benefits." Does anyone really believe that Ed Spychalski is "honest" and "clean?"

During the winter, the image and voice of Weller was broadcast live to a city council meeting.
Anyone who viewed that scenario, should have formed an opinion of this Weller-bag-of-hot-air.
Never held a real job himself. These "educators' get by on their images, and the paper that they wrote years and years ago.
Then they retire on their fat pensions, and are hired to serve on boards.

It seems to me that there is a money issue being raised in the blog entry that is being ignored in the attacks on the blogger. Taxpayers have a right to have their money go toward the public purpose for which it is intended (affordable housing), and not wasted (some connected fool's salary).
I'm not John or Nancy just a New York taxpayer.

This Yusko is the one that doesn't get it! Does he ever get the facts straight? In his article you linked above he has a Michelle Deyette as a board member and in his other article about Jefferson Terrace he has a Peter Berrios as a tenant representative. Both false. His claims about the police being needed there are greatly exagerated. There is a police presence there but for obvious reasons such as keeping an undercover profile they don't advertise their presence.

Just read the Yusko article about police presence--or lack thereof--in Jefferson Terrace. Didn't see Berrios identified as a tenant rep as asserted above. Al C tried to bring this up at the SSHA Board meeting and was quickly squelched by the lovely Joanna before anybody could tell what Berrios' concern was. Kudos to Yusko for bringing this to light. The real question, though, is why did a tenant have to do the work to patrol and get a meeting with Public Safety. Where is Big Ed, the highly paid and "worth every penny and more" Executive Director??

These two wouldn't have the first idea what to do if they stumbled onto a drug deal.

The problem with your reasoning is questionable at best. The whole country because of State and Federal mandates are in or near bankruptcy. Don't think Saratoga is insulated completely from this. It's a matter of time we'll be in the same boat as everyone else. Wake up, we are not the Xanadu you pretend we are.
Nancy says Johnson won't run again, and Shauna Sutton will be a candidate for mayor.
Then there is the other rumor that Eileen "The Finger" Finneran will run for mayor.

I'm tired of everyone blaming out problems on State and Federal mandates. The State and Federal mandates outline some things that must be done by the counties, but they still give the counties the ultimate power to control how much money is spent on these items.
The local politicians use it as an excuse to blame the financial woes on someone else, but really, the tax payer would still be footing the bill, no matter whether it comes in the form of State, Federal, or Local taxes.
Rather then giving this "woe is me" act, and claiming taxes related to madates are out of their control, local politicians need to accept the mandates, and use the power they have to control spending at the local level. Many of these mandates apply to employee benefits, so any easy way to control the impact of mandates is to improve efficency from the work force. They can't say that, cause less workers means less jobs their friends.
After reading 47 comments it is obvious to me that there are so many people who have no clue as to what facts are vs. inuendo.You can turn on Ken and Al but the trap has been set and the Arrogant members of the Board have responded even under annonymous. The correction to the rationale for the salary issue and the bedbug issue should be enough to remove the exisitng Board members who addressed that issue and failed miserably. 5% is quite different than a $5000 bonus over two years. Using steamers when a memo directly from HUD in the Council's possession recommended it could be dangerous for the residents to use. Pledge of allegience voted won 5-2. The hearing should be called ASAP. The audit addresses numbers and transactions not a warped cult mentality that previls at the SSHA. Yes Ed has 30 loyal followers but you can only find one at the Terrace. Ignored for five years while the dollars were being generated at Allen Drive etc. they are cold in the winter, hot in the summer and now they and their families are in personal danger. Undercover police at the Terrace is a figmant of a pompous imagination. I personlly have spoken with undercover police and it is non-factual. It only exists in a warped mind. There is no security at Stonequest either. Walk in any weekend with a tenant, put a mask on and leave with the TV's, furniture or anything else you might choose to address.This group could not lead a Boy Scout troop down the street.The only comparison I could make would be Saratoga Citizen who have lisled the people from Day One and don't have more than one credible individual on their team. Another cult of sorts. Hope and change. Look where it has gotten us. One step from a depression. Now we want to put union contract negotiations in the hands of a non-elected official. God help us!!!!!!!!!!As for Kyle. He hates the Mayor but hates government more. He changes stances and loyalties at will. He does make some good points but than again everyone can make one every once in awhile. The Pledge was voted 5-2? Cold in the winter and hot in the summer? You personally talked to undercover police? I guess if they told they were undercover that wouldn't really help matters when undercover would it now! How then was that drug bust about a week ago there pulled off if they were not undercover? The past five years all the money went to Allen Drive? How about the 100+ heating units that were installed over the last 4-5 years? Or the new kitchen rehabs throughout the senior section there including all new electrical services to go with them? It appears that 10:55am has no clue! Looks like there is a wide range of comments. But what about the questions asked about Ed's background. Can anyone set the record straight. In one interview he said he was being paid because of his 25-30 years of experience. In another, it was mentioned he sued his previous employer for $3,000,000. Is that true? Then what is his experience? Remember all the problems started when the bed bug issue started, which showed no experience or common sense the way it was done. But, if anyone can shed some light on his experience and background, please do.
