I have a busy week.
I will not be at the Council meeting tonight or the SSHA board meeting Thursday. I’m sure many people will be pleased to hear that. Bronx last night and I’m headed to chase Moby Dick.
The Council meeting looks long {again} HERE but in other news the Feds have stepped in to cut bid Ed’s salary at the Saratoga Springs Housing Authority. According to a story in the TU today by Dennis Yusko HERE. The Feds are cracking some heads over outrageous Hud public housing directors salaries. Needless to say big Ed was on the top of the list.
This will be my last post for a couple days but real free to leave comments as I will be posting them as always.
Till we meet again. Stay classy Saratoga.

Have fun!
Thanks for helping the Bombers subdue the Braves.
Looks like The Good Mayor gets a Free Pass 'round here. Imagine a Parking Deck under Mayor Wilkes in the spotlight here... he'd have gotten OT from JT for the Triple-play sins of NO permit, NO Sr. Building Inspector, and NO pressing "legal concerns." Hell, Bad Brent would have been freshly-paved Road Kill. But Local Legend Scotty can do no wrong as long as he delivers the goods. Of course, that supposes it has been built "good"...
PLAY BALL!!!
Sorry Kyle I like the deck
Hasn't Brent moved out out of town yet?He doesn't call or write.I hear some progressives want to turn Whiteface into forever wild up in Placid.Maybe Brent could bless those obviously misguided folks with his great municipal knowledge.Saratoga's ass is still sore from his special talents it could use a rest.
Glad...but surprised...that you've grown so cozy with non-PS City Hall. Guess I'll have to trust Citizen Nancy to cover the story (shiverrrr). And it IS a NEWS story- Just ask anyone whose tried to build a backyard gazebo without the proper paperwork. You "Like" the Deck? What is this, Facebook Journalism?
Foul ball...
but YOUR ball.
Enjoy.
Kyle say it ain't so you and the bride of Kenya. No I understand. And yes Kyle I have gotten a building permit and fought my assessment. To the best of my knowledge neither of the too existing decks ever had a permit under two different Mayor's
And for god sakes Kyle help that women fix her bicycle so she can cover this important stor
Good point Ben, did the other two parking "garages' ever have a building permit?
Who were the building inspectors back then? And who were the Mayors?
Good question? and who has the answers? Could it be Nancy?
Kyle........what's your beef? I heard that you live close enough to the new garage to let your guests use it for parking....you know, just like Bonacio's tenants. All day probably. Isn't that why they added the extra two levels?
go back and do the research. The original plan was for two levels until Bonacio found out he needed more parking for his apartment building on Railroad Place.
Don't see how Feds have done anything to Ed Spych. Status Quo at Housing!
Yes, do your research. I'm certain you've solved the "minor" tenant issue of precisely HOW to move your car every two hours or HOW to avoid the ban on overnight parking. Or has your Mayor been a bit too hesitant to share his plans on the Rules for parking? And which Authorized Building Inspector signed off on your... oh, SONNY'S... third floor?
Keep diggin' and you'll find the bottom of that hole of yours.
Excuse me, I know it's off-topic, but did Linda Toohey sorta have her 4th retirement bash tonight? Don't people ever tire of the egocentric-congratulatory, self-adulatory, persono-mastubatory drivel in the Saratogian? Yup, she "gets up by 5:00 without an alarm clock," and looks like it. You can admire her "volunteer" ethic, but it's hard not to be jealous of the 4 million plus that she graciously accepted as remuneration.
1:15 am, as the old saying goes, when something doesn't make sense, follow the money.
$4,000,000, wow
Rather then pointing the finger at one man (Mayor Johnson), for how permits for the parking garage were handled, I agree that it would be more constructive to look at how we handle the permits for public projects, as a whole? I'm not asking this as Johnson supporter, I'm asking it as a citizen of the city.
It's my understanding, based on what I've read, that there has been some confusion about the need for, and acquisition of, permits on public projects under numerous mayors, representing both major political parties. From what I understand, the reasoning behind this is that the bid needs to be reviewed before it can pass, or something along those lines. It makes sense, but seems to be made a bit more official.
Perhaps, the best way to prevent this from happening again would be to add a LARGE ($10K) penalty to any public project bid submitted, and accepted, that fails to meet the standards required for a building permit. As long as your big is up to spec, no need for permits as long as you stick to it. Any changes made after the bid is accepted will require a building permit.
Not having a city permit for a city job makes sense. No need to create busy work. However, there should be some protections in place. As a people we can provide them for ourselves, without creating a new union job code.

I hear your agrument about the need for the permit. However, it is a NYS law and we have no choice. The work is being done with taxpayer monies and by private contractors. The permitting process ensures that a prpoer codes are followed thus removing the city from further liability in the future.
The mayor had to be aware of the need as the city has always issued all public projects permits in the past. ( Rec Center, City Center, etc)
So we've got an injured party on the Mayor's Go-with-the-flow structure. Could be an insurance item, mayhaps even litigious.
Breezy Mayor Johnson, can you say "OSHA-IT"?
It's a construction site.People work there. I understand this concept is foreign to government workers but try to follow.Sometimes they are hurt then if Brent Willes doesn't have a say in it workers comp pays to fix them
How the hell is the city responsible for the saftey of a private contractors'employee?????? This PR PIG who works for the cult Saratoga Citizen is trying to fabricate issues were none exist.
The bride of Kenya is just delusional.Kind of sad
Back spasm? That's the best story Nancy and Pat Kane got? A worker suffers a "back spasm" too funny.
JT,some of the cult members are trying to distant themselves from the "Drunck Of Africa"one of the money funnels thinks she's more volitale than the most Successful and honest blogs ever "Big Sid".....they don't want to engage,Citizen Drunck will now have to deal with "The Midnite Hour" without the "Tooth"
Lithuanian Black Headed
Let's all understand the rules here-- It's JT's blog and JT rules. As per JT, The Mayor is Anti-Charter and so The Mayor is Godly. Brent Wilkes is Pro-Charter and so Brent is Satan. All the Mayor touches is Golden, all that Brent touches is Corrupt. The Mayor's City Center curbside TV is priceless art and Brent's consulting services are dirty money. The Mayor was born here, baptized in tough honest local waters, while foreigner Brent is the Spawn of Hell. Speak no ill of
The Mayor, his deeds, or his steely gaze fixed upon the Evil Charterites.
Remigia Foy will soon be co-writing here under the pen name of Ben-Lives-for-The-Mayor's-Pleasure.
NOW you know the rules. And so let us now turn to Psalm 475 and sing "Deck the Deck with Dirtball Workers, Love you Mayor J and Screw that Chump!"...
Under the law in NY when a construction worker is injured in an accident related to a height (ie scaffold or something falling from a height) the owner of the property is responsible even when it is the employee of a subcontractor.
Who is the "bride of Kenya" ? ant clue would help.
Where was the "back spasm" phase first mentioned ?
I must have heat stroke - because I am very lost in following the comments.
