The time has come citizens to plan the democratic defeat of Public Safety Commissioner “Toothy” Christian Mathiesen before he does any more damage to the city. In this video I spotlight his campaign deception in failing to truthfully answer the question of who his deputy would be. I think the guy has serious issues.
He needs to go. So does Skippy. The city is dirty and Congress Park is a disgrace. A tour of 100 were taken thru the park last week and a dead rat was found Floating in the water. It was emabarassing to see the weeds and overflowing garbage cans in the midst of our wonderful city's most precious gem. It doesn't help the air conditioning was not working at the Casino either. Flowers in late, city grass full of weeds, cigerette butts and garbage all over Broadway, and major road construction on every other street in the middle of our tourists season does not show any leadership in this department. Commissioner of Public Works needs to go. Saratogians deserve better. They want their city back.
Skippy's work force was cut drastically, and this articl isn't about Skippy, it's about Ma-teeth-son.
People can't expect to get the same service from DPW, when there are fewer workers.
On the other hand, Public Safety is cruising along with overtime out of control, again, and no income from EMS.
What are you? The blog police? I said Toothy has to go. So does Skippy. No excuse for his incompetence. He needs to go. Less money. His job is to figure it out.

Skipppy has been claiming his force has been cut since he took office but then he hires them back or promotes them to supervisor positions so there are fewer to do the actual work. McTygue used to use high school kids part time in the summer to tend the flowers on the old flower power truck--cheap and the kids did a good job and loved the job. SKippy can't think of things like that to do to keep the city looking nice. Love that Pat Kane was his campaign manager and he now wants to change the city form of government because he says the commission form doesn't work. Of course it doesn't when you help put someone like Skippy in office. At least we can try to vote him out every 2 years---if the Dems would stop supporting him and run someone against him. But then the Dems would have to purge themselves of the morons who are still in charge there.
Speaking of Congress Park and the Casino, that fundraiser in the Casino that went on in spite of no air conditioning, they were trying to raise money to restore the Spirit of Life. McTygue brought people in from Peebles Island to restore it years ago but it is in sad shape now as are the Katrina Trask Stairs. It would be nice if SKippy could at least get the weeds pulled that are growing out of the stairs. Thank goodness the Preservation Foundation is noticing this stuff. Skipppy seems oblivious to how bad the park looks.
At this point I don't care which political party takes over DPW. They need to be competent. The Republicans and Dems r equally responsible for him having this position. This isn't complicated. As Tip O'Neil said "all politics r local". This is not a case of different political views. Just a pure case of stupid incompetence.
Perhaps DPW would be a good place to test Brent Wilkes "Professionals are better theory". Let's bid out the contract to maintain the city. Can we get it done from less then Skippy's budget? In this economy, I bet we can.
Skippy is always cryin dpw is doing more with less. When he has money in his budget he doesn't hire needed dpw workers, he hires secretaries. He has also moved the casino/park supervisor to the tool room at the garage to do a laborers job. Maybe that's why the casino is malfuctioning and the park reeks of weeds, cig butts, dead animals etc. Ask Skippy
Good point , 8:45. The trouble, 11>08, with bidding out the work and privatizing public works is that privatizing always involves the company havaieng to make a profit which means charging as much as possible and spending as little as possible. Hasn't worked out so well in most cases. McTygue managed to do more with less in hard times, Skilppy doesn't even try .
Skippy doesn't know what trying means. He is just Donna Buckley's puppet.
Work completed at the side entrance to the Casino deteriorating already. The side that was supposed to be paved last summer still not paved. As for Toothy he wasted six months on his "personal" agenda and failed. Noise ordinance should help if enforced. great job Tony Izzo. South broadway Committee was a waste of time. Should have waited for new directive from Planning. Great job brad Birge and team. Back to Toothy. he was so obsesssed with the bars all other areas of the city suffered. Follow up on the straeets is non-existant in both DPW and DPS. Too many people standing around smoking or just shooting the breeze.EMS Service not well planned as suggested by the Mayor at the onset and we will pay a heavy price for this in both equipment and budget. Expenses will continue to rise, equipment will have to be replaced at a faster rate and re-imbursements will continue to fall. The theory that increasing rates was absurd and showed no research from both the Council and the Chief as well. The only people that are gaining here are the unions and the FF's who supported the program. Too many personal agendas and not enough Council Agendas whi are far and few between. The planning is poor with some exceptions and to many Council members spending time in areas not within their direct responsibility. John Krass "God Bless Him" called Ken Ivins a reporter at times. The city hasn't recieved one solid report on revenues or costs specifically since January 1. There has been more content from the Comment Periods than the Council. Hopefully those conversations are taking place behind the scenes. Transparency was the key word. Where is it. No mention of new hires. No mention of planned evenys. Why use Police at double time for traffic control when you have crossing guards that make much less and are more than capable of getting the job done?? No planning - no day to day follow up, and lower productivity than ever before. Doing more with less is not an acceptable excuse any more. We can't get the job done in the office!!
