“Short staffed” SPA police bust toxic Magician

Public Safety Commissioner “toothy” Christian Mathiesen continues his campaign to cleanse Saratoga Springs of its toxic elements and convert the city into a dusty bedroom community. The Saratogian HERE reports area Magician Cozmo, a local fixture in Congress Park was ticketed by a special unit of the spa cops called the Anti-Toxic Elements Police squad. Toothy insisted he needs more officers and a larger Police station and jail for him to properly cleanse the city of undesirables.

Local Magicians, street performers and wizards are vowing not to surrender quietly. In the meantime Public Safety Commissioner “toothy” Christian Mathiesen explained the reason he pulled the full-time Police officer dedicated solely to patrolling public housing properties in the city on his first day in office Jan 1 2012 was to better protect the public from toxic forms of fun. The officer was reassigned and equipped with a $50,000 Laughalyzer to check city parks and playgrounds for toxic levels of laughter and or dangerous levels of joy.Mathiesen explained joy and laughter can be dangerous to young children and urged parents to keep children locked in their homes at all times.

Remember these famous words SaratogiansFirst they came for the Magicians, and I did not speak out--
Because I was not a Magician

Then they came for the Clowns, and I did not speak out--
Because I was not a Clown.

Then they came for the Wizards, and I did not speak out--
Because I was not a Wizard.

Then they came for me--and there was no one left to speak for me.

If any of you don't get it this is a tongue-in-cheek satirical piece. But make no mistake. Toothy did pull the cop from Jefferson Terrace on his very first day in office and the Magician was busted in Congress Park

I think we should give the SSPD a pat on the back. It seems they finally made an arrest with one of them getting their ass kicked.

What's Skippy's opinion on the Clown in the park? Isn't he responsible for Congress Park.

Come on John why do you NEVER talk anything bad about the Msyor?

You want magic? You want some real magic? You want some seriously real magic?

Madigan put a surplus in her hat, shook it up, turned the hat upside down, and ......POOF, goodbye to the surplus.

Amazing.

But she can count..

JT--The NY Times has had articles the last 2 days about folks dressed up as Elmo (and Sponge Bob, Spider Man and so on) hanging out in Times Square and Central Park making a few bucks getting their pictures taken with kids.NYPD officers have been arresting them telling them all sorts of things--get a vendors license, get a tax ID, charges of disorderly conduct, etc, etc, nothing . A couple sound a little creepy but rather than focus on those, the police seem to be randomly throwing around charges and demands for licenses that are impossible to get.How curious that the SSPD seems to be into the same thing.Have Ray Kelly and Commish M become pen pals? How about a sane, fair and consistent upfront policy for these situations. Or is that too much to ask? Too busy? Easier to harass?

And on another topic. What's up with the "flower bed" at the intersection of Union Ave with Circular. It's still empty! Hello, Skippy, it's almost the 4th of July. Any plans to fill this in before the 4th?? Thank you, Goldbergs, Ms Finneran, Mayor Keehn, Thilo, and all the rest of you Dems who have made Skippy's exceptional reign as DPW Comissioner possible.

Is "stop and frisk" next?

Uh, I don't think there ever was a surplus. Turns out Comm Franck never encumbered the funds for the Breyo settlement. More (or less) later.

Meanwhile, Saratoga now has the most expensive and over-staffed EMT service in the Northeast. The City is losing almost $1,000.00 on each and every EMT call. It may not be criminal, but it's pretty stupid. One wonders when Comm Madigan will ask Deputy Finneran "Where's the revenue"?

Anonymous said...

Yea! Madigan ask Finneran "Where's the Revenue" these are two of Boss Kane's friends these types he wants in gov't..Say no more to Boss Kane...his ego was even to big for Ric Thompson.

I'm running for Mayor. Did you know that? I am, too!

Ha Ha. No, it's not Mayor of the Funny Farm, it's Mayor of Saratoga!

I'll be having our first campaign rally at Clancy's. You can contribute by putting money in the bucket by the door or just buy me drinks. It's all the same.

I came up with my campaign slogan already.

TAKE A FANCY TO CITIZEN CLANCY.

How do you like it?

OK, the crowds are howling for me to make a speech. Oh wait, never mind. That was just my tummy. I haven't eaten in a hour.

Got to run now. I need to go to the library and start learning about Saratoga.

What a funny name that is. I wonder where that came from?

No flowers on Union? How about the entrance way into the city on S. Broadway or better yet, Congress Park. Big events in the park on Wed.! Hello Skippy..anyone working?

Anonymous said...

First, the police officer asked him to move on and only issued a summons when the man returned. Second, the man has an underlying tone of attitude in his comments that leads me to believe that he wasn’t working with the officer but challenging the officer’s authority. Next, the man was calling children over, sited for safety issues due to putting a rope around a Childs neck and accepting money from children. I don’t like the accepting money from children thing. Adults are ok, but not children. He states he does not ask for money but tips his hat and tells them they can donate if they want? That is soliciting.

The police were notified by several complainants. We have no information on the subjects past. Other people who work with or around children are required to have background checks and be fingerprinted. I am not saying in any way this man is a bad man, but is it wrong in this day and age for parents to be concerned about anyone that approaches their child?

Let’s just say that the police were called several times for any suspicious person by concerned parents and failed to investigate? What if as a result something bad did happen to a child? You would all condemn the police for not doing their job. So, the officer checks it out not because he or she has nothing better to do but because it is important and involves children. Upon checking it out, he or she encounters an attitude from the performer. None the less the officer advises the person and moves them on without issuing a summons. Next, they’re back. And back with even more attitude. The man should not have returned until the matter was sorted out. So the officer issues a summons.

3:25 (officer name unknown)

His/her "police report" sounds so typical cop-language.

Sounded like " the individual in question was asked to leave, but the individual resisted, and gave attitude to the officer in question. Now the individual becomes a perpetrator, which raises the bar and makes him a potentially dangerous individual. Subsequently, the perp had to be restrained. We had to read him his rights, and all precautions were taken to protect the children in the vicinity of the perp."

Give us a break. This whole situation stinks, and is just one more black eye on our fair city. There HAS to be more important things for the PD to do.
Maybe get in some of those cars that sit on Maple Ave all day, and move them out of sight of the taxpaying public, who are wondering why we have so many unused vehicles.......

As a member of Saratoga Citizen the reason Thompson left the group as an active member was because of the radio show, nothing to do with Kane or his ego. Kane has been on twice and according to the guest he said was on this Saturday (Brent Wilkes), it doesn't seen that either one of them has an ego problem. Hoowever, I'm sure that Rick would be glad to know you listen to his show. Give a call Sat.

@6:17 Don't be so hard on Obie's post at 3:25. He's absolutely right. The police can't just turn the other cheek to something as horrific as a MAGICIAN entertaining CHILDREN. If they let this guy keep entertaining people on the street, without the permit he was told he needed and the city told him didn't exist, where do they draw the line???

It's not long before there are people photographing their dick and sending it out to unsolicited women, or men using public vehicles to "stake out" and stalk young women.

Oh wait... nevermind.

People entertain on Broadway all the time and no one complains but this gentleman gets multiple calls to the police by the public???? He seems to create concern in the guts of more than one person. The police responded to investigate this subject upon several complaints. They did not just single him out and take unwarented action. It's their job to investigate the concerns of the public. If they didn't you would be complaining. Lets just face it, some of you are card carrying members of the cop haters club. Any twisted excuse to bash them is a good excuse. The cops could save a nunn who fell out a window and you would have a problem with them. Their is no reasoning with people who are intent on hating and bashing.

One Women who was harassed and stalked by a Saratoga cop in Wilton called the police over 100 times before anyone did anything.
Then they went out and hired the stalkers brother.

First off. The housing authority stopped funding for a police officer about 10-12 years ago. HUD used to make funding available back then but it is long gone. Can't blame Matheisen for that. But there is still reason to be encouraged. Our wonderful mayor appointed Albert Colucci to the Housing board along with Ken Ivins. Talk about a couple of clowns? They have fallen right in line over there with the rest of the boobs on the board. Colucci and his self proclaimed protege Pastor Pete at Jefferson Terrace walk the beat at night hammering away at the drug dealers that they claim are out of control there. I have to wonder what these two nutjobs think they are accomplishing. I wonder if Albert has ever done any homework on his partner that he is promoting to be a resident commissioner for the Housing Board.

Well than 8:39 PM I guess Dennis Yusko of the TU is a liar. According to him the position was cut Jan 1 2012. So how can that be if as you state there was no position to cut?

"There’s been a few developments at the Saratoga Springs Housing Authority I wanted to share. Pastor Peter Berrios Jr. of Jefferson Terrace wants the police department to reinstate a full-time officer dedicated solely to patrolling public housing properties in the city. That beat ended Jan. 1 due to cuts, police say."

When you use words like "gentleman" and refer to a person as a "subject" you are giving away your identity as a police officer.

Nice try.

I'm not crazy about the idea of some creepy magician approaching children in the Park. I have no problem with the police getting rid of the guy. I know this was just meant to be an amusing post but I still would support the PD on this one.

Please enlighten the rest of us. Just what do I look for in a person, to know he is creepy?

His looks, his speech, his clothing, his hair, tattoos? Just what do I look for so I know who is creepy and who is not?

@8:57 You hit the problem with 6:05's logic right on the head. The problem with the SSPD is so often forget what their job is... to enforce the law, plain and simple. There not gods, or judges, their THE HIRED HELP. The city writes laws, the cops enforce them.

Look down the list of incidents involving our local police department. The cock shots, the stalking, the cooked up charges with the skidmore kids, settlements in lawsuits allegeding disgusting behavior like racism and assualts of restrained citizens. This is the force who tasered a mentally handicapped suspect in handcuffs. If you really want to see "creepy", how many cops wives filed for divorce cause their spouses were cheating?

Unless this magician is performing in womens underwear, the stuff ON RECORD with the SSPD is WAY "creepier" then any magician. The best part of a magician is, that's he's only in the park, and you can simply walk away from him, because it's a big park. There's no walking away from the SSPD unfortunately.

Now, before you go and brush this off as a "cop hating" post, read the facts presented in the Saratogian article again. The guy was asked to stop by the cops once, he went to city hall to obtain the permit he needed. City hall told what the cops told him was wrong, AND they didn't have a process in place to give him the permit he needed.

When the cops came back the second time, why didn't they follow up with anyone in city hall, to confirm or deny Cozmo's story? I'm sure they could radio in. Probably use one of those personal cell phones you can always see them texting on too, although I wouldn't expect them to eat up their minutes on city business.

A little bit of police WORK could have saved everyone alot of time, and the city additional expense. Also, even if the charges are dismissed, as the magician claims, the number stays on the books for the annual SSPD report. The one that shows only how many "arrests" the SSPD made to show us how dangerous the city is. I really hope someone stands up at the council meeting, when the 2012 report is presented, and asks Toothy, on the record, how many of the arrests in the report are charges filed against magicians, that were later dismissed.

10:18, why don't you contact Rick and give him some guests you would like to have on. John, I don't think Rick Thompson has a problem with anybody. I even think he's a little crazy because he even speaks well of you (I can't figure that one out), and he has something probably all your posters haven't got, a RADIO SHOW, however little it might be. just sayin

1:09pm if ricky needs someone to give him a list of people to have on his little show then he should go back to selling snake oil he's not doing a community service he just spreads propaganda for saratoga citizen.

Two MAJOR pet peeves of mine lately have been people who think adding "just sayin'" to the end of their statement thinking it's chic(this is to you, anonymous 8:47 and 1:09). Yes, I KNOW you're "just sayin.'" You just fucking SAID it. Blurting out this superfluous pair of words in a conversation is at least somewhat forgivable. Maybe you have Tourettes or some other form of mild retardation. But to write it at the end of your fucking asinine garble of words just makes me want to reach through my screen and throttle some sense into you. Speak to the point, use words wisely or shut the FUCK up.

Second --and not offense to you John --I've grown very weary of people co-opting Martin Niemöller's "First they came' poem. I realize it's all in jest. But I read someone else rewording this very moving holocaust-era poem for various causes and I wonder whether they understand how egregious it is to change a single word of it. For me, it's kind of like pissing on the mass graves in Dachau. Or maybe close to home, wiping one's ass with an American flag that was presented to a serviceman widower. Again, I know it was used in jest here. I just wish people would think a bit deeper about the real meaning of that text before using it for their own purposes. It should never be used out of its original context. Just sayin'...

No offense taken
