In a largely symbolic and innocuous resolution Public Safety
Commissioner “toothy” Chris Mathieson asked Gun Show exhibitors to not display any weapon of a type used in Newtown tragedy?
Personally I could probably sign this myself. I guess since
you can’t find a AR-15 for sale in this State{they have been sold out for a
week and on back-order} no one will have any to display.
The way this is worded a Ak-47 or Ak-74 would be just fine
since none were used in Newtown?
Personally I see this as a cheap political stunt to score

I was at First Night and Fireworks went off. Caroline was packed with an unbelievable line to get in any bar or club.
The de rigueur dress code for women appeared to be a Micro-skirt with a thong. Men as usual wore whatever they dam well pleased.The cops kept a low profile and Caroline was closed to traffic

It is totally a political stunt. If Newton had not occurred the good commissioner would not be able to make the mute point he is making Saratoga Springs safer which quite honestly has not happened since his presence in the Council. When was the last time a gun was fired in Saratoga Springs? If his patrolman can't handle a simple street fight let's make a deal with the County Sheriff's Dept., eliminate all local OT to pay for it and bring in people who can get the job done. He still doesn't have the courage to support mandatory drug testing.

After FOUR YEARS of study, the City's Design Review Commission voted to UNANIMOUSLY approve a motion in favor of the demolition of the Firetrap at 66 Franklin Street. The DRC resolution cites over 14 studies and states--
"The DRC believes that the structure continues to pose a threat to public safety."
Safety-minded citizens would expect the PS Commissioner to introduce a resolution in support of the DRC and urging a timely and lawful demolition. Instead Mathiessen used the last Council meeting to publicly reject a call for MEANINGFUL public safety action.

People who are not gun buffs will not be at the gun show nor will they recognize one gun over another as being used at Newtown without being alerted to that fact. How silly is that? It's like when someone dies of lung cancer, asking everyone to switch brands of cigarettes away from what the deceased smoked.

When drinking most people can't stay on topic especially when they are obsessed with it. Kyle really needs professional help. FF and EMS service without mandatory testing. Think of the exposure to the city.This is just common sense. We can mourn the deceased but we still can save the living.I am not referring to guns. I would challenge anyone in the Fire Dept. or DPW to state they didn't know these people had problems and said and did nothing.

I wish i knew all the laws, but they are poorly writen and often obfuscate the issue, but i'm 100% sure that this may or may not be a weapon you can legally own in NY.
It has a threaded barrel so the flash hider (i assume, it could be a muzzle break) can be removed. If so, it's illegal, unless you pin weld it and it's really a compensator. That is of course unless the grip is not considered a pistol grip, in which case the Evil Feature would be the ability to have the flash hider. I still think it needs to be pin welded on the barrel, or the ability to attach a silencer would make it need to be registered and taxed at $200.
Cumon Kyle: For 4 years, you have ranted against the safest building on the block. Its owner allows it to look shabby instead of mothballing it correctly. The DRC (all 4 members) based their opinion on very questionable testimonies about safety and imagined dangers. This quorum (is 4 a quorum or did someone forget to call in the alternates?) already has dirty hands. Time and the Judicial Decider will tell.
And yet another "toothless" statement by the Commissioner, this time strenuously protesting the sale of high-powered firearms. But remember, "Pornography is in the eyes of the beholder"...and this is something we take very seriously at the station behind closed doors.

To answer 7:51 - The PBA, EMS, & Fire fighters are NOT subject to any testing at all. I beleive the Police have the option to test or not!!! The DPW employees however are all subject to drug & alcohol testing. The ones that SHOULD be tested most often are NOT. If you fail two testings within 6 mons. the Commissioner can immediately fire you. However, Comm. & Deputy (who should also be subjected to testing)ignore the drunks & druggies. In fact one certain supervisor has come into work reeking of booze, or shows up hrs. late without any action being taken. The rumor in DPW says he'll be promoted soon!!! Can't make this shit up!
Talkign about a shortage of Police for New Year's Eve. We sure didn't have one this morning. Driving from McDonald's on South Broadway I had one atrol car behind me and passed three additional patrol cars two blocks apart heading south.Todat is a holiday$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$. What would you expect. I'm sure the chedule for the week is checked by the Deputy Commissioner and the Chief. Don't think the Commissioner would bother to. He is too busy still trying to find ways to close bars early and kill the business community with taxi stand taking vital spots during the winter months.The first order of business for 2013 unfortunately wasn't addressed. That should have been a proposal of a vote of NO CONFIDENCE for both Commisioners Scirocco and Mathieson. $30million of budget in the hands of two incompetent individuals with a city full of intelligent people to fill in until the next election is warranted.
City council members refuse to get drug tested, not city workers.
New Year's Day is the day that cops get paid holiday pay, not New Year's eve.
Which makes no sense at all, from a taxpayer's viewpoint. Nothing happening on NY Day, so why hire so many cops?
Which member/members of the Council would you prefer to drug test. A test for alcohol might be more appropriate.

FYI New Years Day begins at Midnight! Most of these comments are way out there! The details of drug testing are described in labor contracts, which are agreed to and signed by both sides, Union Reps, and Mayor.

9:59 - You can attribute the bloated contracts to Lew Benton, Tom Curley and Ron Kim. This Mayor would never hve given away all the BMWs and Cadillac Plans. Even John franck who seems to have changed his stripes has brought that up at several discussions I have attended. There is no more to give than a minimal increase. Anything more than 2% for any department should be the mandate.
Any individual should be allowd a legal weapon for defense of themselves, their property and their family. The military does not provide that. Maybe you need an exam. There are more people killed in Chicago on a daily basis that we have seen in Saratoga Springs in the last 30 years. You are correct about Benton, Curley and Kim.
They all were commissioners who allowed the department heads (chiefs) to run each department. From 1976 to 1988, there was someone to keep an eye on them, those days are gone now.
And the newest commissioners are doing the same as the Benton, Curleys and Kims. Add Wirth and the good doctor to the list of guys who thought all they had to do was attend council meetings, and things would run by themselves.
Check out the huge rise in overtime since Erin Dreyer was forced out. Not that she did things the right way, but at least she saw that the city was being screwed over.
Chiefs are promoted from within each dept. They have no supervisory skills, they have their kiss-ass friends who are well taken care of with perks.

Do people need assault weapons for home protection? How about small rocket weaponry? Pay an annual insurance premium to cover the cost of all the harm that is done by registered and unregistered arms owners alike. What's wrong with that idea?

Show under any circumstances will not be cancelled. There is no rationale reason why this show should cancel.It is not in the hands of the Council anyway.It is understandable that this has had a serious effect on everyone but so did 9/11. Life must go on and we should pursue improvements to the system and also improvement to the reduction in services and quality of care of individuals with potential menetal illness that can be treated if detedted. There is more wrong with this situation than the finaltragic result. Steer should put her efforin steering in that direction.

Do your own homework.It was brought up several times by Commissioner Ivins that DPS Police did a great job in that area.Last year the Safer grant saved the SSGD but what will next year bring. Anyone who follows the numbers has to realize that $700,000 in revenue would not cover the costs of the EMS program which is now a Public Safety service and not concerned about breakeven. Breakeven numbers range from $800,000 to $1million depending on increased salaries and increases in healthcare and pension costs which will continue to rise. The initial pro-forma was based on 8 people. That is a falacy when you see two vehicles and seven fireman going to th scene of he call. Consider what happens when two calls come within minutes of each other. Would the SSFD be in a position to address a major fireadequately. The answer is NO.
What happens when you watch then members of SSFD save a life, right in front of you, as they did a DPW Employee just over a year ago? You say Wow, I thought that guy was dead! Thank God they responded so fast and did a great job! Can't put a price on that and that's something you never forget!
