Saratoga Springs Board of Education will not entertain the gun show issue, for now.

In another setback for Susan Steer and her husband Bob Turner, the Saratoga Springs Board of Education refused to even discuss the gun show issue in the Civic Center much less ask the City Council to kill it. The meeting was held at the Tang museum at Skidmore College in the “we the people” room. One problem with that, the seating in the room is a bullshit “piece of art”. We were told that sitting on a “piece of art” might be dangerous. I have splinters in my ass. The art was put together by Skidmore Professor Bob Turner who seems to want many people to attend, but suffer when they get there. Got to love academia.

Anyway the public comment period was the same.  Rev Jay Ekman of the Presbyterian-New England Congregational Church was a riot. He compared gun shows to KKK meetings and asked the board. "Would you be against renting the civic center to the KKK." Now my black friends who went to the gun show and own guns would really find it amusing for a lily white Reverend to tell them they now belong to the “Klan”

The same crazy woman who speaks at all of these things who I won’t name, continues to insist her ex is a gun totting killer. She claims she has called the State Police, city cops and sheriffs but no one will help her. Really I think she’s a loon.

Then Kathleen Donahue of NYSUT, {the teachers union} said they would not support the anti-gun show resolution. Which makes me wonder? Do teachers really believe their students are little more than a mob of psychotic killers? Do they secretly go to gun shows to arm themselves against a gang of flesh eating zombie kids?
Anyway the rest was the usual bullshit. I spoke, a few other pro-gun people spoke. The board was generous with their time.

Then it was on to the issue of the day.

Should the Saratoga Springs Board of Education send a non-binding resolution to the city council asking them to send a non-binding resolution to the Civic Center asking them to cancel all further gun shows?

This was put on the school board’s agenda by one man, Mr. Francis G. Palumbo. Palumbo is a fervent follower of brother Jay Ekman and a member of the Presbyterian-New England Congregational Church.
He demanded that the board pick up the mantel in this pivotal moment in history and demand the city council stop this black Klan meeting masquerading as a gun show. The board let out a collective yawn. Not only didn’t they vote yes, they refused to even take up a vote on it. A amendment was added that said “not at this time”. The motion to not even discuss the gun show issue passed 7 to 2. So it ended.

But what is Susan Steer up to now?

From comrade Steer.
"there is another city council meeting on Tuesday, February 5. We are hoping to get something on the agenda regarding this issue to get the city council on record on where they stand as to whether the city council will support a resolution to ask the city center to cancel the remaining gun shows."

What this means is Public Safety Commissioner “toothy” Chris Mathieson will be bringing a resolution to the February 5, Council meeting demanding they cancel all other gun shows at the Civic Center. Franck will second and Madigan who has spoken publicly in favor of continuing the gun show will be the swing vote. Time to see if the lady has some balls.
PS.I went by the card game and the strippers were just arriving. They told me they knew some bald headed guy inside who always tips good.Wonder who that is?

Saratoga in Decline
We never Sleep
Because I have splinters of “art” stuck in my ass.

Based on the tragic automobile accident involving Shen students , I'd hope miss Steer would also look to keep automobiles off of school grounds. There has to be a safer way to get students and teachers to school

In lieu of the fact the Governor just approved a Gun Show at a State facility I don't see how the City Council should even recommend the City center entertain canceling gun shows for the balance of the year. The Governor's new gun law is flawed and now needs to be amended. In the long run it will fail.It also will failat the Federal level. The key component which is the mental illness area cannot be addressed without violated federal Law. Bottom line is that government doesn't have the solution. You may see some form of weapon banned, better followup on background checks but the mental illness piece is very challeging. Think this has become more political than practical. I don't believe John Franck would support a cancellation.

The more this goes on the more ludicrous it gets. When the system is broken you fix the lieces that are broken. You don't break more pieces. To comapre a gun show to a KKK meeting is not only racist but the voice of a amn with a chip on hi shoulder who is taking out his anger at the first opportunity. Guns show are controlled. Background checks take place and the law is enforced. A small protest to honor the victims is fine until it gets political and that is exactly what is happening. I'm not sure who will benefit but it sure won't be the victims from Sandy Hook or possibly even the mother, father and three brothers and sisters who were killed by their 13 year old son and brother last week in New Mexico. Why not protest for them as well? There will alwaays be gun shows and there always will be sporting goods stores in which people are legally sold guns. Legislation can eliminate guns used for military pueposes and multi bullet clips but legislation cannot deal with the value system that has deteriorated over the years and exists in our country today. Fifity, forty, thirty years ago these issues were unheard of and guns existed and were used primarily by criminals and in most cases it was to kill other criminals. Where did those values go? Parental control and guidance has deteriorated severely since those times. You can see it in the schools everyday by behavior of a percentage of students. There are people out there young and old who have various types of mental illness that although recognizable are not being treated. Part of it is created by laws. Part of it is created by lack of awareness and concern. Part of it is we're too concerned abotu ourselves. To continue to attack a local entity or a local gun show solves nothing. The State although somewhat misguided has introduced legislation that needs to be examined and refined but without the healthcare piece may not be the answer either. You do not punish the 99.9% for the behavior of the .0001%. That would be ludicrous. The gesture of a peaceful demonstration should be honored and appreciated but the outside groups who have turned this into a political fiasco should be chastized for taking advantage of this sad situation. It is time for people to come together to mourn and try to find a reasonable solution not to enhance their individual staure for political means. This division on concerned people has to stop. They all care in their own way and should be allowed to but they also need to come together for a positive result. Get the politics out and the chances of finding a solution becomes greatly enhanced.

Commentary from VP Biden for the liberals making hay about this issue. he is not really concermend about assualt rifles because they are and represnt a minimal amount of the deaths at local school, theaters and colleges over the last ten years. he is more concerned about the amount of bullets in the clips that he feels is a major source of mass killing. He will recommend outlawing assault rifles but his major objective are the clips, background checks and mental heanthcare issues. This wasn't one of his famous gaffes.

From the internet...

“A Missouri lawmaker is making waves with a bill that would require parents who own guns to notify their child's school.”

Good, bad, or indifferent.
What are your thoughts?

Actually the person comparing the gun show to a Klan rally was partly right. Think about it. If the Klan were to hold an event people would be offended and try to stop them because they don't like what the Klan stands for. They would feel the need to go on record as being against that kind of thinking themselves. Okay, so now it's a gun show they don't like. Guns are inanimate objects, so the people doing the protesting are really against the mentality of the people who like weapons. It's a kind of culture war.
My problem is that the protestors, some of them anyway, are trying to place blame for a tragic event on some people who had nothing to do with it, and also whether they acknowledge it or not, they are flaunting their perceived superiority to the gun aficionados. The President belongs in this group, the Superior Ones, but I don't include those peace protestors.
The peace protestors stated that they just want people to think about the violence in our culture. Right on! We are trying to solve the problem of violent, mentally ill young men who lash out, without examining the issues of mental health and violent culture i.e. movies and games. The gun crowd has been scapegoated to avoid any examination of the entertainment industry's role in this, IMO because they have the big bucks and it would be really inconvenient for them to voluntarily regulate some of the gore.
I'm not saying that violent movies, music, etc. cause these shootings, but they certainly do have an effect on the violent mentally ill, and gun ownership does not make the majority of people commit violent acts.

How do you know that those scallops are REALLY Tuscan scallops?

If a Subway footlong is only 11 inches, then my faith in humanity has been forever tarnished.

Check out Saturday 1/26 Times Union article on Albany Arms Fair and Gun Shows in Albany, Sayracuse, Saratoga Springs and other cities and promoters. The agreement was made by the Attorney general and approved by the Governor. This should settle the gun show issue once and for all.Now the politicians including David Soares and his bodyguards can find another place to spew their political speeched while taking advantage of a protest group that was well intended.

If I was mattieso I don't think I would embarass himself by bringing this to the floor. Now that gun shows have changed to meet the state criteria who is he to generate his own criteria. As long as the new criteria is followed he has no basis for his action other than to continue his anti-business mentality.
