So I went down to Albany this morning and had an early
morning meeting with my Capital friends. They reconfirmed what they told me
before. Saratoga County has been selected for a casino site. End of story. Where
in the county is the question and the Governor intends to put the squeeze on
the Racino.
That makes me wonder about Frank J. Parillo and all that
land he owns on South Broadway.
That brings me to the progun protest. The first causality of
the rally was the capitol lawn. One word mud.
Say no to disposable consumer culture. I support the effort
to reduce plastic bag usage and waste in Saratoga Springs, NY. On average,
plastic bags are used for 12 minutes, yet they will stick around for thousands
of years as trash, polluting our waterways and harming animals. You have a
choice. Let's join together to stop this disposable consumer culture that is
destroying our planet. It's time to bring your own bag, Saratoga.

JT I'm a huge fan of your blog and what you do. However your bashing of the trash bag initiative just because its supported by some of the anti-gun lobby makes you sound petty and childish.
The Rapp Road landfill in Albany stinks to high heaven and impacts a growing number of adjacent communities with high levels of methane and other issues. The landfill has been expanded into the Pine Bush preserve repeatedly and will probably grow again after its current expansion since Albany could not balance its budget with out the tipping fees.
Anything that we can do as a society to reduce the crap we buy from China, use for 10 minutes and then discard in our landfills to rot for thousands of years should be done now and supported.
The hostility and bashing doesn't help your cause nor further your otherwise excellent expose' of corruption in the region.
BTW, GIS stand for Geographic Information System and could be used quite effectively to analyze/show how Franck's assessment reduction scheme unfolded throughout the City, could be used to show how some of the DPW drives around the City in circles all day doing next to nothing, and could be used to analyze South Broadway redevelopment on a parcel by parcel basis.

Everyone needs to be educated on waste and plastic from China (or anywhere else) and then maybe Skippy the dog catcher who's running the DPW (into the ground) wouldn't get so many 'campaign contributions' from County Waste for raising the cost of Saratoga Springs trash bags and we would all be better off.
I do believe that you were the one who did an excellent job of publicly covering Skippy's trash bag fiasco and the bag fee increase Quid pro quo.
So, if its SUV's, lawn care and house size (all valid points) then that should be the issue. God knows we need to work together and figure out some solutions to our problems. Unlike the orchestrated public hearings at City Hall, the Saratogian or TV, your blog is the only place where information flows from a network of sources unfiltered. The guy out there pockets half the money for cigars. Commissioner Skippy has no idea what his department is doing. The water deal with wilton will bring in the suits and will follow him out of office. What he gets for listenng to that engineer.

Look at every major city in New York that is in deep trouble. All but NY has a democratic mayor. Saratoga politics has turned into Chicago politics. We might be safe but end up broke. Between what the Governor is doing with Casinos instead of building the tech industry across the state will long term destroy the racing industry. We might end up a little safer but broke. By the way when was the last shooting in Saratoga Springs Charlie. Has anyone failed to mention that the methane coming out of the dump is 10 times more toxic than CO2? I would not want to be on the team of installers of the solar panels that will end up costing the city more for repairs than the potential minimal savings.
